starter motor removal

Featured Replies

I've looked at Haynes on how to remove. It quotes that access to th top bolt is by removing battery & holder ( as from https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/472637-removing-battery-housing-to-get-to-pas-fluid-tank/

and access to the lower bolt is from underneath. Quick thought looking from above is that both might be accessed from the passenger side  wheel area after removing the wheel liner and wheel. Any comments on the feasibility.

I don't see how you'll be able to reach the tool and swing it without being under the car.

You need a high lift jack and axle stands then you can do it comfortably, I'd just pay a garage to do it myself.

Thanks for reply. I always read Haynes wondering if they have missed an easier way  to do something. Often I've found there is. Idea was to get at the top bolt from inside the wing ( if possible)( long extension) and other one either from inside the wing or from underneath . I was looking at a renovation job as from the problem it's either a dirty solenoid or muck on the clutch mech.

Betya it's the solenoid wire about to give up, if you haven't already inspected it thoroughly.

Wino- be my guess, but every time I get problems ,there's no excess load on battery ( starter clicks, hence solenoid activates, with no headlamp loss. ) , and application of hammer to starter solves problem.
