Oil changed?

Featured Replies

I was told the garage would use compliant oil..

On the invoice they have used

Mobil S3000 X1 form Fe 5w 30 208L

Mine is a 1.6 greenline

Fix was 30000 miles ago.

Any thoughts?

I did find it tucked away on the mobil site only available in workshops.... I. E. Bulk purchase

Well, its a good quality oil but it doesn't appear to have the VW 507.00 specification/approval required for Superb MKII diesels. I only see Ford specifications for it.

Mobil say ""Mobil Super 3000 X1 Formula FE 5W-30 is intended primarily to meet the requirements of Ford but is also suitable for use in other vehicles where the viscosity and quality claims are appropriate."

So, while it might be chemically OK (I'm not knowledgeable enough to say!) I don't see how it is "compliant" with VW 507.00.

I take it that this wasn't a Skoda garage?

I entered my reg on the Mobil website and it did come up up as Ok

From what I can see on Mobil's literature for it, it doesn't have any VAG approvals. That doesn't necessarily mean it's not suitable, but it requires additional due diligence on the part of the owner and/or mechanic to ensure it's appropriate. You will need to verify that the oil meets the requirements set down by Skoda for the engine; the suggestion from your search on Mobil's site that they consider it correct may be sufficient. If you're concerned, be sure to take a screenshot or printout of the search result to keep on file should any issues arise down the road.

@lichfielddriver

UK Skoda participating dealers doing fixed price Oil & Filter changes and a health check are @ £119.

Still plenty money, but correct oil and as to Sump Plug in or out, then even if oil is sucked out the Sump Plug should then get removed and a new one fitted.

So you've paid £50 more to get the wrong oil put in? I'm all for staying away from the main dealer as I don't think the main dealer employ people that are any better or more diligent than other garages but I would like to find out for certain if that oil is suitable and if not I would be draining it out.

Can you not supply your own oil?

5 litres of genuine VAG VW 507.00 oil delivered to your door from a franchised Skoda dealer for less than £24...

Nobody wants customers to supply the parts.... they get less profit

That will be the nobodies you use then, and not the people others use that do take Un-opened containers of oil that paying customers supply.

Well in that case you'd be better paying your local Skoda franchised dealer the £119 they charge for an oil and filter service, using the correct oil...

DIY £30?

please send me your unwanted cash

Not that complicated, there are good garages and mechanics that do use the correct oil or the oil that customers supply.

Even some main dealers but more so independents.

I am surprised you run a Taxi and can not find a good trusted place to take your car to.

Eh!?

In your opening post you said you took it to a garage.

A garage that used the wrong oil.

I've lost count of the number of your servicing threads I've posted on. Your taxi is your livelihood, either pay someone who knows what they're doing, or do it yourself.

I can't work out how you keep getting it wrong.

I am even more confused where it was posted that Dealerships do not remove sump plugs,

then there is the post about sucking out oil and if you can do.

You can remove the oil with a suction pump as we know. You can do that and then change the sump plug if you think you want to get a dribble more and see if there is sludge there which really is unlikely as you change the oil regularly and know what oil you used and how you drive.

anyway.........bought oil and filter from Skoda and had a proper mechanic do it

Most of your threads seem to prioritise value for money and keeping costs to a minimum (nothing wrong with that by the way).

Are you saying you bought the oil and filter from a main dealer and took them to a trusted garage to change for you?
