panicky beeping when driver's door opened (engine running)

Featured Replies

help, please . when i put the car in Park (with engine running), and open the driver's door to hop out for a while, my Kodiaq RS beeps apocalyptically (ignition warning, apparently)

have dived through the menus but not found a way to switch off this baby-waking nuisance

not wanting to stop engine , as aircon kept on for baby

So stop the engine.

trying to avoid the hassle of that

You won't be able to turn off the audible alarm via any of the menu's. It is a feature to prevent Skoda from a barrage of potential litigation.

In the US, where almost all cars have automatic gearboxes, it is the same. My Mercedes does it too.

Young children, dog's etc. can very easily knock the DSG gear lever from P to D with you not in the car.

The alarm may risk waking up a sleeping child, but I guess Skoda see that as preferential over the car taking off uncontrollably with only your child inside.

The air conditioning will still operate, albeit at reduced performance and the cabin temperature won't deviate much for a good few minutes with the engine off, much like it does when stop/start is active.

Its a car, not a baby creche, not designed for you to go off and abandon your baby for a while

Turn the engine off, if you leave it on always a chance someone will jump in and drive it away

I guess I should be thankfull to have survived childhood without an air conditioned car.

I would be fairly certain that my father always switched off the ignition when leaving the vehicle or even when at a standstill (not that you had to stop much in traffic in those days) because my elder sisters occupied the rear seat and I was seated outside on the Dicky seat of the Morris 8 Tourer right above the tiny exhaust pipe that emitted a constant stream of blue smoke.

I was weaned as a petrol-head 😀

So presumably in a public place?  Which would make it illegal for you, the driver,  to leave the car with the engine running.

Just stop the engine.  How much "hassle" is it to restart?

Can your wife not press the rest button on the heating/ac panel that uses residual heat to keep the cabin warm?
