Changing Wing Mirror Repeater Lights?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Is there a useful guide to replacing the lights in the wing mirror? Elegance 2005 model?

My repeater indicator is only glowing very feintly and has thrown a "bulb out" warning light. Recon it's either corrosion on the contacts or a wire in door rubber trunk has become damaged.

Thought I'd start with the easiest first

Thanks

Nick

Here's a thread from a Mk2 Superb:

I've just had to do this job on my 2013 Superb Elegance estate, it is a very fiddly procedure:

1. Remove the mirror glass, disconnect the heating element wires.

2. Remove the downlighter bulb.

3. Remove the 2 Torx head machine screws.

4. Remove the Torx head self tapping screw securing the top half of the mirror housing and the two catches, then gently lever up the top half and remove it.

5. Unclip and remove the bottom half, with the repeater light unit still attached.

6. Remove the 2 Torx head self tappers holding the downlighter bulb holder and remove it to expose the screws securing the repeater unit.

7. Remove the 2 Torx head self tappers attaching the repeater unit to the bottom half of the mirror housing and disconnect the wiring block from the light unit.

Replacement is the exact reverse, be careful not to trap the wires leading to the repeater and the heated mirror.

Skoda made a bit of a meal of this one!

Yours should be a bit easier (I believe the PFL didn't have LED wing mirror bulbs).

The bulb you should be able to get from your nearby parts store - probably a W5W.

Just found this in the factory workshop manual, unfortunately the Body Work reference doesn't exist.. Hope this helps!image.png.94775cf783c3ba0e33ff1f79fedb1276.png

Good morn OP,

As above, this is a simple enough job, but a bit fiddly. Take your time and don't force anything - if it takes too much effort you will have missed a screw somewhere.

Good fortune,

Alan

If it's the actual orange indicator that's gone it's an LED and not replaceable to my knowledge, it is only the puddle light which is a replaceable bulb or at least it us on my car... I've an 07 and had to replace the drivers one last year and passenger side this year ... Well to be honest my local garage replaced them for £10 both times and I'd supplied the part....

When removing plastic parts at this time of the year try and warm the plastic up with an hair dryer or hot water so it lessens the chances of breaking any clips.

Thanks all for your advice

Took the thing apart yesterday to have a shufty at the gubbins. The whole indicator part was full of water! Took the puddle light lamp holder out to change the bulb whilst I was at it but the bulb just crumbled and broke. Luckily I didn't slice my fingers to bits but spent half an hour digging bits of broken glass and corroded element out of the holder.

Looks like i need a new assembly for this.

I notice the new ones have a different electrical connection. Mines a 2004 model. I will need an electrical adapter loom cable for this. Seems like total cost is going to be £60+ just to change a repeater indicator!

Any one know of a good Pattern part for this? Or is it OEM only? Needs puddle light and wire adapter.  Or any part numbers for the above items? Couldn't find a VAG/Skoda stamp on mine so guess it might have already been a replacement?

Golf-fiend .... My driver's side last year was a genuine VAG part from one of the dealers on eBay whilst the passenger side one thus year was a pattern part and they looked identical and fitted perfectly .... The only thing was the pattern part didn't come with a bulb in the puddle light holder... Not a big issue but a pain at £30 odd for the lght ....

All done and working fine! Got a genuine one from my local dealer who is just down the road. Cost £70 incl the adapter wire and vat. Decided to go local as I think the whole mirror assembly is not OEM and had been replaced before I got the car 11 years ago. It would have been a pain to get a cheap part from eBay etc if it had not fit. I’ve seen some that have different fixing screw locations.

Cost more but at least it all went perfectly.
