vRS Oettinger ECU

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have been doing a bit of a ‘stock take’ on our vRS. Prior to getting into it with a bit of gentle fettling. It’s had a new temp sensor  yesterday which sorted a few issues.

The car is a 2003 model year and is a NZ New car and well spec’ed with factory rubber mats and boot liner the boot pocket set and a 6 disc CD. Interestingly the car’s Speedo is in MPH but the odo is in KM’s. So I suspect it’s a UK market car that has found it way to NZ. There are not many Fabia vRS’s on the road over here...

Looking at the ECU I notice it is Oettinger marked.. I know Oettinger have a long association with VAG.

Was that ECU a factory tuning option?

Any help appreciated.

cheers

My guess is that it's had an Oettinger remap, it's a standard Bosch ECU.

Does that help?

Hi,

Thanks for that. Yes it is helpful. I’m wondering if the Oettinger remap was a dealer option? In NZ you can still spec up Oettinger body kits on a new mk7.5 Golf Gti for example. So I suspect the remap was a dealer option here in NZ. Not sure if this was the case in the Uk?

The car certainly goes very well... It pulls very strongly in the lower gears as well if not better as my old mk5 Golf Gti.

Working back in the dealer network in the UK when these car were launched, there were no official manufacturer sanctioned tuning upgrades offered from Factory on the Fabia vRS. Yes certain dealer groups dabbled in having the cars tweaked but they were doing it without factory warranty approval.

My dealer group used to offer "superchips" upgrades on the Octavia MK1 1.8T vRS and also did a few upgrades on Fabias but it was all done post registration and the customers were aware of the warranty implications. Effectively the customers were having it done privately, and we were just facilitating that.
