Skoda rapid on PCP and cambelt/water pump?

Featured Replies

We've got a 2016 Skoda rapid on PCP over 3 yrs and just gone in for a service and rung saying it needs cam belt and water pump doing this yr as it's 5 yr old. It's only got 40k on the clock.

My question is as long as we use original Skoda parts can we get it done at another independent garage? My wife's uncle is a mechanic at a garage and doesn't charge us for his time, and looking around I can get Skoda water pump/ cambelt for £119 and Skoda want to charge £529.

Sorry but how can a 2016 SkodaRapid be 5 years old in 2019 or even 2020?

?

So is the Cam belt and due on a 3 year old car with only 40,000 or are they up selling?

How long will you have the car and what is the T&C's on Servicing and Maintenance and what does Skoda say in writing on the Cambelt and Water Pump Service Intervals?

My mistake it's a 2014, don't know why I out 2016.

We've had the car since Feb 2018 and it's over 3 yrs PCP.

Need to find paperwork to check about mainty on car, we've moved since we bought it so need to go through some boxes

Do you intend handing the car back to Skoda Finance at the end of the PCP term?

If so then you need to have all servicing and maintenance carried out at a Skoda retailer...

Do you intend to pay the balloon payment, and own the car outright?

Then yes, you can have the work done outside of Skoda.

I'm assuming the manufacturers warranty has expired (3 years / 60,000 miles)?

There is no need to have it done at a Skoda franchised dealer.

Unless you have an extended warranty, or a third party warranty, as long as you use genuine parts and a VAT registered garage you'll be OK.

After 5 years you're also highly unlikely to benefit from any out-of-warranty goodwill from Skoda UK either.

Says 1.6tdi on his post

Important lesson here though, don't buy a VW on PCP if its going to pass 5 years old during the contract.

Just sold our other one at 4.5 years old.
