Heater issue Facelift climatronic Manual

Featured Replies

I’m having heater issues and have tried to find a thread with info but everyone I read seems to be DSG related.

My issue is blowers work fine but when on red it’s not very hot, hotter when on settings 1-3, when 4-6 it goes colder....(not freezing but cooler than before)

I’m not losing any coolant and the temp sits at 90 bang on after 10mins and sits there all day....

I've tried flap reboot to no avail, and I’m at the point of handing the car into the garage for diagnosing...

Poss Heater matrix, but no coolant loss?? Thermostat???

Need fixed before the winter!!! Any help greatly appreciated 👍🏻🥶

p.s. 2014 tdi 140 manual......

Air in the cooling system, clogged heater core (matrix) or defective valve are the things that come into mind.

If there is some heat, some coolant is still flowing through the heater core (inside the dash). But if too little flows through, it will not get very hot.

If you turn the fan to higher speed, more air is pushed through the heater core. Therefore it will transfer more heat from the heater core to the interiour.  The core will cool down. If there is not enough coolant flow, the temperature will start to drop.

If the temperature is and stays at 90 degrees while driving, I don't suspect the thermostat.

If I had this problem, my first action would be to flush the coolant system (adding something to unclog it, like forte coolant flush but there are many more). Will not be very expensive and won't do harm if used correct. When flushing, remember to turn on the heat to as hot as possible (so max. coolant passes through the heater core/matrix).

Does your expansion tank have "mit silikat" written on it anywhere?

Can’t see any wording?

That's good.

Some recent cars have bags of silicates in there, and they have occasionally been known to rupture, depositing gritty solids throughout the system, blocking stuff.

Just had the car into an independent VW specialist and there were no codes stored. All electrics working fine also. Booked in next week for a flush and further investigation

will post the results 👍🏻

Flush carried out and there is a blockage somewhere as the flush could not be completed properly...

this has resulted in complete loss of heat now 😞🥶

So in next week for matrix removal replacement and full check of system......

there is heat in the system though as the pipes are roasting, just no heat coming through blowers,

Thanks 😂🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶

Hi Melvi,

did you resolved it? I have similar problem. Left side is not working, it blows colder air than right side.

New heater matrix fitted which fixed the heat issue 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

But, one of the main flap motors is faulty and requires replacement 🙄

This flap allows hot/cold transfer and is common issue when hot one side cold other 50/50. Sometimes also a continuous clicking can be heard.

In next week to have this done...

independent garage have been excellent in dealing with this 👏🏻
