Strange noise from front left

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I hope you can help me...

There is a strange humming noise coming from engine/front left of my car. However I was unable to locate where it is exactly coming from. I can hear it from 15 km/h but most clearly at around 80 km/h when pressing on gas pedal. It seems to get the loudest when maintaining speed at 80 km/h and it stay constant but after 80 km/h or I can't really tell since there is lot of road noise. It is constant in any gear so changing gear or pressing on clutch does not stop it. However pushing the gas pedal makes it little bit more louder. Cornering does not seem to be effecting the noise. I have already changed the wheel bearing but the noise did not go away.   Do you have any idea what it is? Can it be transmission or inner CV joint (both boots are ok and  there is no leak) ?

Car doesn't know the words? :)

Seriously, check all round the FL tyre for evidence of uneven wear.

I have already switched tyres. No difference in noise so I do not think it is tyre related.

Just in case, do you have a roof rack or roof bars fitted?  These tend to "him" at those sort of speeds.

No I don't. I some how suspect that the sound is coming from the inner CV joint but I'm not sure. Can it make this kind of noise?

That's convincing; it's always check the easy to DIY check stuff first if the OP doesn't say they've done it.
