False EU Tyre Labels?

Featured Replies

Whatever size of Toyo Proxes CF2 tyres that you look at, they all have the same EU tyre label: C B 70 dB.

Most manufacturers will have different labels depending on the tyre size, and will often get noisier as the tyre width increases.

I believe that these are manufacturer self-certified labels and have not been independently tested.

Do you think that Toyo are doing a VW dieselgate on us?

Vredestein could be another culprit. Until recently, they were claiming C C on all their Quatrac 5 tyres. Now many are suddenly showing a performance downgrade to E C. This downgrade happened around the same time as a competitor launched a competing product, namely the Kleber Quadraxer 2 which usually has an E B rating. Kleber is a Michelin brand.

All tyre manufacturers self-certify their tyres.

They can and do retest them though.

No manufacture can produce an average tyre. eg D and D ratings. 😉

Since June 2012, tyre manufacturers have been required to provide data in relation to the performance of their tyres through testing.

Due to the sheer vast number of tyre models, it was decided that a centralised EU tyre testing facility would be unmanageable and unproductive. Therefore, tyre label testing is self-certified using specific EU standardised methods that every test must adhere to.

Nothing false about the testing. Why get so aerated about it?
