New Owner Questions

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I’ve just ordered my first Skoda last week. Kodiaq Style 1.5TSI DSG. Really looking forward to it. I have a few questions which I hope you guys might have the answers:

1.         The dealer said he expects delivery in early January (ordered 15Oct). Anybody in Ireland think this is a reasonable timeframe?

2.         Is there any sign of Wireless Android Auto being available for the Kodiaq? From what I can find out, it is available for the Scala and Karoq. If my car didn’t come with it, would it be something that a future software upgrade would fix?

3.         I know there are a lot of comments on the TSI engine issues but have the recent software updates improved the issue. Is the issue present in all cars with the engine or just a percentage?

Thanks.

1) Skoda Ireland might be different, but Skoda UK already get priority when it comes to factory order slots (compared to Europe at least), and lead times are currently long, more so with certain trims and engines. Dealers will often promise the earth to get the sale, and work out how to appease you later when, rather than if the car is late.

Your car (depending on factory options), might be one from stock (Skoda do tend to stockpile cars at the plant and in Emden in Germany), which would obviously see a much shorter lead time.

2) No, wireless Android Auto / Apple Carplay were not part of the MY20 (model year 2020) updates announced for the Kodiaq. Perhaps next year (MY21). I would imagine a retrofit would be cost prohibitive as chances are it'll require hardware as well as software changes.

3) Skoda and the DVSA have just (in the last few days) announced a recall on the 1.5 TSI to redress the issues that have been plaguing VAG for over a year now (see the separate thread). This would suggest all future factory production will have the fixes already in place, so I reckon you'll be safe.

EDIT: to add the link to the recent thread on the 1.5 TSI recall to fix the lack or power when setting off...

Thanks silver1011,

Really appreciate the detailed reply. I ticked a lot of the options (panoramic roof, virtual cockpit, heated windscreen, Family pack,  electric tailgate, ACC) so might be waiting a bit for the car to be built, I guess. I can live without the wireless Android Auto, would just have been a "nice to have". That's good news about the 1.5 TSI kangaroo issue. Hopefully it will correct it for new builds.

Sounds like a well specced Kodiaq, definitely a factory fresh order then!

I went all out got the sportline with all both Tech & luxury pack. The andriod auto is a real pain in the arse. Having to plug my samsung s10 into the usb each time is stupid. Ive started not to even bother and jut use regular bluetooth and keep my phone in the wireless charging spot. (Which is just fits)

True, you'd think we'd have mastered the wireless connectivity of all phone functions into the car long before now.

I like Waze, but the hassle of plugging the phone in each time is a pain, so instead I use a phone holder clipped to the central air vents and use the phone screen to display the Waze maps instead.

You can always buy a Brodit adapter and a suitable mount with charging for your phone  - Thats my plan.. transfer holder from my Yeti (with charging) and already have new mount... that way when you slot in to hold phone - it charges and connects..

I did look at these briefly, one of the advantages of my rather primitive air vent phone holder is that it brings the phone right up to almost eye level, which I quite like from a Waze perspective.

But with this - your Waze uses the Infotainment system

Ah, I missed the wired connection.
