Air filter life

Featured Replies

Hi to all

If like me you are running a standard setup and normal dry paper air filter, the recommended service interval for the Fabia vRS filter is 40,000 miles. Last time I was in the dealers, I thought i would pick up a clean one and fitted it today. The old one had covered 22,600 miles.

I was surprised to find the original looking quite clean and did not expect to feel any difference in the way it ran. A quick test drived proved otherwise though with a noticable improvement, particularly at the top end. So if you are on stock filter, it is worth changing it more often than the recommended service interval.

I may grab a Jetex replacement next time I am over Stratfrord way.

I change my air filter on every service which is every 6000 miles. It's not that expensive(around 10£) and my dealer recommended it cause i do a lot of city driving.

I cleaned my "service every 60k miles" K&N filter last weekend and, considering it had only covered 15k miles, I was amazed at how dirty it was. Noticed a big difference after giving it a clean and re-oil so I think I'll do that a bit more frequently now

As far as paper ones go, at a tenner a throw, changing it at every service won't break the bank :D

I replaced my filter for a Green one at 6k miles and I was suprised how dirty it was. Not filthy black but dirty all the same. I think it definately would have needed replacing before 40k!

Maybe it depends on where you live as I live in the heart of the poluted NE!:(

Just checked my Green filter and it looks relatively clean after 4k miles:confused:

I think 40k intervals for a paper filter is rediculous. I'd change every 20k miles for peace of mind. When I took mine out circa 15k miles it looked pretty clean, but I'm sure it wouldn't be as efficient as a new one.

As for the green filter, I clean mine every 5k or so, god the **** does half stick to it  And I'm so careful to make sure I use as little oil as possible, dabbing with a paper towel etc to remove the excess... I'd do it more often if the strut brace wasn't such a pain... :(
