Automatic audio off

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We went to the drive-in movies the other night. Audio for the movie comes in through the FM radio.

However, with the ignition off, the audio kept switching off after 30  mins.

This appears to be by design:

Automatic switch-off of Infotainment

If the vehicle key is pulled out of the ignition lock while Infotainment is switch- ed on, Infotainment will switch off automatically.

If the vehicle is fitted with the starter button, Infotainment will switch off au- tomatically after the engine is switched off and the door is opened.

With the ignition off, Infotainment will automatically turn off after about 30 minutes.

This is quite annoying. Anyone know a way around it?

Mines Columbus audio in a Sportline 280 Combi.

I've got a starter button, not a key.

Just press the ON/OFF button of your columbus. It should switch ON again... and probably switch OFF after another 30 mn.

This function is to preserve your battery voltage level.

Press power does switch it on again.

But

1) Its annoying to have to do that

2) the non-tactile power button on the Columbus is a bit hard to find in the dark and ensure you've pressed it once

I understand that it wants to switch it off so I don't drain the battery, but in the old days of keys, you could switch on the audio and leave it on.

If I leave the ignition on, it will fire up the end if I knock the steering wheel.

Press the start button without your foot depressed on the brake pedal.

You'd be even more annoyed if the battery went flat to the point you weren't able to get home.

Assuming the film is a couple of hours long you only need to turn the infotainment back on two or three times.

Leaving the ignition on will be an even higher drain on the battery, and I'm guessing the cars around you won't want to be distracted by your daytime running lights (DRL)?
