Spare Wheel

Featured Replies

Does the Scala come with a spare wheel?

I can't see any options on the UK configurator?

On the Swedish configurator there is an option of a 195/65R15 spare wheel or a 125/70R18 spare wheel.

Skoda Sweden website:

skoda.se

A Spare shows in Standard Equipment in a 'S' in the UK.

So should be there on the SE & SE-L.

It looks like all models have a space saver spare. Possibly 125/70R18 ?

Best look in the boot of one and see.

Regularly another lost in Translation from German to Czech, to Spanish to English or American English.

They say 'Space Saver' even when it is a 'Saving Space' and fitting under the floor Full Size Steel Wheel with a full size tyre.

Just not matching the 4 on the car.

eg, Skinny Space Savers, and a 15" with a 195/55 R 15 H rated tyre.

I think you mean 195/65R15.

195/55R15 would have a much smaller outside diameter to 205/55R16, 205/50R17, and 205/45R18 tyres.

I think i was giving an example generally and not Scala specific.

I have a wee collection of Fabia 'temporary space saver wheels' with 195/55 R 15 tyres.

Must get the advertised on here.

@Carlston

Are you in the UK and buying a car in the UK, and looking at getting a Scala?

You seem to be very very intested in lots of section on people fitting narrower tyres with higher sidewalls.

Scala comes with 205/55R16, 205/50R17, and 205/45R18 tyre options as standard.

I like the idea of fitting 205/60R15 tyres.

So not always narrower, but plenty of sidewall for comfort.

Let us know what you think of the ride / comfort and handling once you have driven one, and let us know what spare is in the car.

On the Skoda Eshop it's showing a spare steel wheel for the Scala 6Jx16 ET35 with a 195/60R16 tyre.

Product Code: 658601011

https://eshop.skoda-auto.com/cz/en/b2c/spare-wheels/spare-wheel-for-scala-658601011x/0/1/24/43/1001

They probably call this a space saver as it's got the 50mph maximum speed yellow stickers on.

There's also a spare wheel jack with tools and polystyrene insert for the Scala:

https://eshop.skoda-auto.com/cz/en/b2c/sets-to-change-wheels--1/set-for-spare-wheel-scala-657093860x/0/1/24/43/1001

I don't know if the jack and polystyrene insert would fit inside a 15" spare wheel, ie. 195/65R15 fitted to a 6Jx15 ET35 steel rim, or whether you would need the 16" sized spare wheel. On the Skoda Sweden website, you can order a new Scala with a 15" spare wheel, so I would have thought that Scala also make a suitable jack and polystyrene insert so maybe this is the one or maybe there is another one.

With Scalas being sold with a minimum of 205/55R16 tyres, it might have made more sense to have offered this size tyre as a spare wheel. Maybe this size doesn't fit in the wheel well in the boot? Also, the 205/55R16 tyre size isn't approved for use with snow chains. Snow chains are only approved for use with 195/65R15 tyres fitted to 6Jx15 ET35 rims and 195/60R16 tyres fitted to 6Jx16 ET35 rims.

There's some steel rims that fit the Scala on the Oponeo website:

https://www.oponeo.co.uk/steel-wheels

The approved tyre size for the 6Jx15 ET35 steel rim is 195/65R15.

The approved tyre size for the 6Jx16 ET35 steel rim is 195/60R16.

The approved tyre size for the 6Jx16 ET40 steel rim is 205/55R16.

Just get an insert for a 15" spare if you get a 15" spare. Plenty about.

If what is available in Sweden matters then getting the Winter wheel / tyre into the spare tyre well might matter.

Carrying matching spares or a pair of spares can be 'simply clever'  even in Scotland over the Festive Season where places close for lots of days come new year time...

Spare tyre wells that can not take the size of a wheel off the car with a tyre inflated are useless. There might be a puncture but the size is the size.

If you have to take a car off the wheel and fit a spare you want to be able to put the wheel tyre in the Spare Tyre Well if the boot was fully loaded when you had to change the wheel.

On a Mk2 Fabia vRS that had a 195/55 R 15 or 185/60 R 15 spare you could get an alloy with a 215/40 R 17 in, the cars OEM size is 205/40 R17.

My SE came with a full size spare, not checked the exact spec. Will have a look when it's daylight and not raining. (That doesn't happen very often nowadays)

Has the 195/65R15 spare wheel got the yellow stickers that limits top speed to 50mph?

Lots of Spare wheels, so wheels to be used in an emergency do not come with Stickers, those can even be Dealer Supplied Spares call 'Space Savers' which are full size spares, just not the same 'Full size' as the 4 on the car.

So when a Spare wheel is fitted that does not have a Visible Warning sticker the driver needs to think.

Does the tyre, size, compound, weight, and wheel not match the other one on the same axle or the tyres / wheels fitted to the car and should i reduce my speed to a a safe speed and carry on just to a pace of safety / repair of or replacing the correct wheel / tyre.

Also that a unused brand new spare is 'green' and might well behave as any new tyre does when put on a vehicle.

My spare tyre has the 50 mph yellow sticker but it has a 91H speed rating (130mph)  the other tyres are Michelin 205/55 R16 91Vcar-spare.thumb.jpg.c5c7b561ada2580595ab33e306a54826.jpgcar-spare2.thumb.jpg.0f19762ee3230a7c9a7124d820495f5f.jpg

It is because the spare is a different size you need to drive with more caution. eg not above 50 mph/ 80kph.

Thanks AG Falco

I always found it strange that the mk1 Fabia vRS came with 205/45 16 spare wheel, the same size of the other 4, but had a 80kph/50mph sticker on it. The only difference being it was mounted on a steel wheel not an Alloy . My tyre was a Michelin Premacy tyre which was Asymmetric and non-directional.

People need protecting from their own stupidity or lack of common sense, so warning stickers on products sold as items not in cars or in cars and supplied

in various world regions / countries having a sticker on is no big deal.

The thing is that some that should have stickers have them removed and some never get them.

Mericans need stickers all over cars to warn them.

Even packets of nuts can have the warning, 'May contain nuts.'
