Infotainment Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hey

After looking through other threads i have come to the conclusion that I have a Bolero unit in my car with the 5.8” screen and i have read that it is possible to upgrade to the Newer style screens

I take it it’s not just as simple as popping out old unit and screen and replacing?

I’m looking for guidance as to what I need to buy and what Work I need done

I’d prefer the Apple Car Play setup buy heard i’d have a visible wire showing, could somebody confirm that and if it’s possible to re-route it so it’s hidden

What I believe I need:

• MIB2 or 2.5 Multimedia Unit (Looking at  565035021A)

• A Display Screen ( looking at 5E0919606D)

•  Antenna ( As my car doesn’t have Nav, and of like to install it)

And then am I correct i need to see a specialist to Remove CP and do some Coding?

Sorry if this has all been asked and answered before

What makes you want a Columbus? They are very very good but the more expensive option. If you just want CarPlay and a glossy FL screen you can fit a MIB2 Amundsen 5Q0035874A, B or the MIB2.5 C) and use the FL Amundsen screen (5E0919605M) and it’ll likely be cheaper but if you want the best the setup you have chosen is it. It’s what I have in my car. I have routed my cable for CarPlay under the console to the armrest so no visible wire.

As for the work involved with the radio you will need to have the CP removed and the radio coded outside of the dealer network to reactivate features. Contact member Pab567 and he’ll sort you out with radio rework.

I like the look of that setup. I did have a decent one in my Rapid Spaceback with the Smartlink but that never got activated. And I’ve actually found the Unit & Screen (bit pricey)

So when it gets routed you the armrest is there a specific reason it goes there?(I.e connection port put in there) or is it just to be hidden from sight?

Also did I read somewhere that you need a New USB port?

Would that get sent to him so the work can be done on it?

Thanks for your help

If the radio unit is expensive (and they are) then I really recommend the Amundsen for the better value. The glossy FL screen still looks great and you can use an older radio with prices around £120-150 for the radio and £2-300 for the screen. I routed to the armrest as it hides it, you can put a FAKRA extension on and wire it there but I just put a long lightening cable under trim to store my phone there to keep it out of sight. You do need another USB (5Q0035726E). Yes you would send the radio to him but some radios will need CP removal in the uk first and some won’t.

Can I ask what the FAKRA is for?

It’s the type of cable Skoda use. You could get a M2F FAKRA cable to extend the USB connection and get a new socket for the armrest but I didn’t.

Okay got you, does that then make the one under the climate controls unusable?

Yes unless you use a splitter. I converted mine to charge only with a USB hub from Amazon.

Aryt okay, my usb only charges my phone it won’t work through source to play media for some reason.

I take it Apple CarPlay is through Smart Link and am I right in believing that it’s not able to connect Wirelessly (Reason you have usb hidden in armrest out the way) as mine is currently wrapped 4 times round the gear stick 🙈

I emailed John Clark Skoda near me and explained that I wanted to upgrade my Infotainment setup in my car to MIB2 unit with Amundsen 8” screen that I’ve found from a breakers yard. And asked them if they would do CP removal and if they also do fitment. This was their reply

What’s your thoughts on this?

If it’s a 5Q0035874A Amundsen then CP removal is all the dealer needs to do, they won’t be able to make anything other than the radio, media player and phone work. The rest needs Pawel. If it’s a newer radio it may have to go to Pawel off the bat. What is the part number?
