KODIAK - TYRE TREAD DEPTH?

Featured Replies

This may sound like a daft question so apologies but I have just purchased a used Kodiaq (68 plate) from a main dealer and reading through the 'Skoda Express Check' document that was with the paperwork I see that there is a marked difference in the tread depth of the tyres from the service in August?

FR = 6.0 mm

FL = 6.5 mm

RL = 6.5 mm

RR = 5.5 mm

Any clues here?

What were the other depths reported on during the service?

What are the actual tyre depths now?

Could be simply a paperwork error.

The dealer may be able to give an explanation if there are still discrepancies between their report and the actual depths.

Hi Gregoir

Thank you for the reply. The report on the outer/middle/Inner tyre tread depth are the same as my original post.

This was from the service which was late August and the mileage on the service report shows that it had done only an additional 1,300 miles (Now 8,000 miles) before I bought the car (05 Nov) so I would say minimal additional wear?

Just seems a bit odd that both the left hand tyres show 6.5 and the right hand side tyres are lower than the left especially the rear right being 5.5 which is 1mm less than the left hand tyres?

Amended mileage to 1,300

What is  actually the "marked difference in the tread depth" ? Are you referring to  different individual tread depths implicitly  reported on the  two occasions?

Or are you only referring to the differences across the axles?

Sorry not to grasp the issue.

Slight differences in tread depths may reflect the vehicles usage eg consistent wheel scrabbling on repeated  right hand lock.

Maybe ask the question of the Kodiak owners?

A number of possible reasons :

Poor (inaccurate) measurement

Tends to throw car into left hand bends (or left turns) so weight on right scrubbing right more

Speed humps affecting one side more than other

Driver was very fat (ok, this one not political correct), causing more wear on right

Uneven tyre pressures, or under-inflated etc on some tyres

What tyres are fitted, make, type, size etc

Check the 4 digit date code (usually near the rim), are they all same, or are tyres from different batch, which may indicate one or more was changed from a puncture

No need to apologize Gergoir but not an easy question to pose when typing rather than ask in person.

My worry is the actual wear of the tyres on the right hand side of the vehicle. 1.5mm tread loss over 12 months acceptable but not 2.5mm tread loss on the rear right. Based on 8mm starting tread I would be replacing the right hand 19" tyres rather quickly!

This concerns me because my old vehicle was serviced annually and the tyres worn out at the same rate but on one occasion my front left had worn 0.5mm quicker. Not a great loss I know but my shock absorber was 'worn/leaking' which as I understand could lead to this?

I was going to say that but didn't have a nice way of putting it............I know a spare wasn't fitted when I picked it up but just spotted on the 'Express Check' that it does say 'Spare' with the comment 'Boot Full' so he may have been lugging concrete around as well 🙄

In the UK the L-H-S tyres wear quicker than the R-H-S tyres.

Could they have been swapped from side to side at some time?
