Tyres

Hi, I'm about to buy Octavia estate 1.4 petrol i think it's tyres 205 45 17, will tyre 215 55 17 fit instead?

My 1.4 tyres are 205/55 -17 V.

This is a common tyre tyre size with a wide range of available tyres. I'd stay with the standard size, I suspect the other size is rarer and more expensive. Also the thorny matter of modifying the vehicle from standard specification.

225/45/R17 is normally the standard size tyre fitted. The V at the end is the speed rating of the tyre, the higher the better. Base models were 205/55/R16

Apologies, mine are 205/55-16. I know nothing of the 17" sizes.

My 1.4 TSI estate has 215/40x17 tyres - when they needed replacing I fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 as I had good experience with them on my previous car.

On an Octavia? That is quite small compared the standard 225/45/17 stated above. Putting the sizes into willtheyfit gives a speedo difference of 5% and a ride height change of 15mm.

Have a look on the inside of the fuel filler flap, this will give you the tyre sizes / pressures suitable for you car.

I went through this some years ago with my 2013MY 1.4 Octavia Estate  (which has 205/55 R16 91V written on them)  either the filler cap or, see it you can get the actual approved list.  There's a German version of it  here - find your model and engine it lists what you can and can't fit   pp197 has the data for the estate on it,

"Schneeketten zulassig" = snow chain fits?  yes/no

NB  it's from 2013 so may not refer to the "new" Octavia, from memory I gave up trying to get the English version after ringing Skoda UK
