Intermittent fault with headlights. Skoda Octavia 2017, most of the time everything ok but every so often warning light comes on and headlights start going from full beam to dipped then to lowest setting and back and forth, very dangerous when driving on country lanes etc. as you can't get full beam on when in fault mode. Has anyone else had this problem ?

Are you sure you don't have auto high beam?

 

Also you may get a better reply if you put a more descriptive title rather than your user name.

I do have auto high beam but this happens when nothing is coming the other way and it still does it even if I take auto mode off.

Have you scanned for errors?  Sounds like the auto light system as a whole is playing up.  Could be dirt on the sensor?

It has been into the local Skoda Dealership twice but they can't find any errors. The sensor for the auto is on the rear view mirror and everything clean and looks ok. I have been told that there is a sensor underneath the car that adjusts the lights depending on how much load you are carrying and I am starting to think this could be the problem but I don't know where it is so can't check it.

I believe these are part of the rear brake assembly somewhere.  It detects the static load on the rear and adjusts the lights accordingly.
