Phone placement

Featured Replies

With wireless charging no longer available the phone box is no longer any good for storing phones, the signal is reduced.

So, where are people storing their phones? which third party holders are preferred?

My phone still goes in there, it allows easy access to the USB port used for charging and Android Auto etc..

I've not found any adverse effects on the phones signal down there though.

I've noticed the gps struggles when the phone is in the box

I have my phone in my pocket.  That's the whole point of bluetooth, isn't it?

Until you want to use android auto

My phone seems to work just fine for signal and GPS whilst in the phone box, and we don’t have a signal booster.

Just checking and it seems likely that the phone uses the car’s GPS antenna whilst connected to CarPlay/AndroidAuto

Discontinued in my20, the phone box is nothing more than a cubby now.

No. You’re confusing two different things. On older Kodiaqs, there was a wireless booster in the cubby that amplified the mobile phone signal. That has been discontinued.

However, whilst plugged in to the USB connection when using CarPlay / Android Auto, the USB connects the phone to the car’s GPS antenna on the roof. That has not been discontinued. I don’t know whether the USB cable also connects the phone to the mobile antenna on the roof for booster phone signal - my guess is not.

Then I may have an issue, the gps signal takes a dive when the phone goes into the cubby whether it's connected or not. It's perfectly ok when placed on the dash
