Strange noise help needed

Featured Replies

There is a strange loose rattle coming from the underside of my car. I can only describe it as the sound of a metal coat hanger being trailed on the ground. Its a light rattle, and is only really obvious in multi storey car parks with the windows open.

I have looked underneath the car to see if anything is trailing, but i can't find anything. And the car is driving as normal.

Any ideas??

Just a thought. Have you checked the heat shields on the cat/exhaust to see if they are loose?

I had this on my Passat, but can't quite remember what it was.

I seem to think that it was something to do with the rear brake pads/splash guard or something.

It didn't effect them working, but you could hear that tinkly metallic rattle.

It was most annoying in the summer when I drove with the windows down.

I have only had a quick look to make sure nothing was trailing on the ground. If i get some time and it isn't pi$$ing down after work, i will try and get the axle stands out and have a proper nosey.

Hopefully the warranty will cover whatever needs doing anyway.

Probably just your brake pads.

They tend to make a noise when worn and seem to just touch the disc enough to make a noise but not affect driving, does get really annoying though!
