DSG MFSW flappy paddle retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I’m new to both Skoda and this forum. I do have fair amount of experience of other VAG vehicles though. There are some great threads here and there seems to be a wealth of knowledge and advice too.

I have just bought a 2010 Octavia estate, it’s an elegance with 2.0 TDI (BKD engine) and DSG too. Lovely to drive, very comfortable and seems cheap to run, great spec. Very different to my various golfs though as most of them have been R32 and GTi!

My car has a MFSW but does not have the ‘flappy paddles’ and I was thinking this may be a nice addition/mod. Strange that the VW/Audi versions come with it, but this doesn’t. My question is, can I retrofit these? I’ve seen several VRS wheels for sale with the paddles, but they are from the MK3 shape. Will this work? I know this isn’t possible on a golf for example, but is it possible on an Octavia?

i have VCDS and I’m more than happy to code stuff if needed, but am I up the proverbial creek without a paddle when it comes to fitting the later type/style MFSW?

I have searched but all of the threads I’ve seen refer to retrofitting a MFSW where there isn’t one fitted already, not adding the paddles or different version MFSW.

thanks in advance

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can switch steering wheels to add DSG paddles. It won't be any different to retrofitting a MFSW to a non-MFSW car apart from you already have an appropriate steering controller fitted ;)

As for the MK3 Octavia MFSW wheels, the buttons won't work as the MK3 is MQB platform and a MK2 FL is PQ35.

Instead, you should find a Yeti or MK2 FL Superb MFSW, these are both the same platform as the Octavia and should work. You can also transfer the buttons from either of these and fit it to a MK3 Octavia (etc) wheel. There are two different generations of buttons, early ones have green backlighting and newer ones have white backlighting. Earlier Octavia's have 1K0 steering controllers which aren't able to illuminate the white backlights so it might be worth checking which controller you have.

A few people have already done it:

Including myself (no DSG though):
