2.0Tdi 4x4 Dual Mass Flywheel

Featured Replies

Has anyone here swapped out the DMF/Clutch on a 4x4 Yeti or similar VAG drivetrain? I'm getting rattle at certain revs and now a low end vibration suggested by garage as failing DMF (done 160,000miles).

I can see helpful videos online of VW and the like but not of a VAG 4x4 variant. Has anyone attempted this and can advise if the 4x4 is much comparable?

If I could interpret the engine (CEGA?) and gearbox code properly I would post here.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The gearbox has to come out, so you'll be wanting a proper four poster lift.

If the gearbox is coming out then you also have the prop shaft to deal with on a 4x4.

A pretty complex DIY job.

Yip, but gearbox seems to have to come out for fwd too but agree that the propshaft adds another bit of complexity. Have you done it on 4x4?

No, not on a 4x4, I haven't done it on a 2WD either, instead trusting it to a local independant. The job was almost a full day though so I'd imagine the additional labour on the 4x4 would make it a full day job.

See my post halfway down this page...

I see you are "in the north" if you said which bit we could maybe suggest specialists.

I'll go first with:-

Clutch and Gearbox Centre in Ellesmere Port

I had my Insignia clutch/DMF swapped by them, for the best price I could find in Merseyside, and when checking prices 2 VX garages said go there and cut out the middle man! They might not do Skoda but you could ask?

Much further North, outside Falkirk.

Had DMF and clutch replaced on a 13 reg  2.0 tdi 4x4 a couple of years ago by a local (lake district) independent, cost approx. £660.

Thanks Cumbrian28, what were the symptoms and approximate mileage? I could get mine to kinda rattle at certain lowish revs and a wee bit of vibration. Now booked in to an independent. Looking at the scare stories around broken clutches that silver1011 has posted it seems to be Sachs parts around 2012. Was your clutch broken or was it the DMF?

We had handed the car over to our daughter some time before, she reported that the clutch pedal sometimes didn't come back up. Eventually on one occasion there was loud grating noises and the car refused to move. Definitely the clutch. The fingers were all misshapen when it was dismantled. I did drive it over 250 miles with the u/s clutch when I got it to move, probably what wrecked the DMF.

Ouch!

Thanks for your info and help.

I doubt if that wrecked the DMF as the fingers are on the pressure plate that grips the clutch plate to the flywheel.
It has been known for a broken pressure plate to wreck the bell-housing and gearbox casing.

Thanks for the clarification Urrell. If I remember correctly the mechanic did mention that it was lucky that the bell housing and gearbox weren't badly damaged.

Was probably sensible to change the DMF with the clutch. Yours sounds like yet another clutch failure like the various reported in Clutch Eats Gearbox and Bank Balance!.
