Goodbye

Recommended Posts

Today I picked up my new Volvo V60 and had to say goodbye to my VRS.

I have to say my three years with it have been fantastic, it hasn't missed a beat and apart from tyres its cost me a grand total of 79p on a new bulb.

I desperately wanted a Skoda but the deals that I were offered were just too steep and the part ex valuations that I was offered was to be honest laughable.

However if anyone manages to pick up my old VRS they will get a simply fantastic car.

This group has been great, offering really invaluable advice, enjoy your cars!

Enjoy your new car.

We all have to shop around for the deal that best suits us and a car that suits the time of our lives, children, dogs, caravans or maybe the luxury of none of those !

Maybe the new 296bhp VRS will tempt you back in 3 years time...!

Thanks!

Hit the nail on the head - children, dogs - no caravan though!

Yeah, I did loads of shopping around, I initially though that Skoda would offer me a really good deal, as my VRS was in perfect condition and it would go back for sale through the dealerships (I was looking for a Superb Estate or Kodiaq) but they offered me anything up to £1000 less than Volvo offered me, that with a hefty £8K discount and 2.9% apr (PCP) it really was a non brainer.

Will miss the old girl, she was a great car - not convinced on the new shape Octavia, however they always look a bit different in the flesh and I am sure the VRS model is going to look sweeeet!

I'm in a similar situation, considering selling my estate. What I've found so far are the three Skoda dealers I've approached aren't interested, the worst price of anyone by far being the garage I'm purchasing a new car from. Best offer thus far is just selling it to auction site Arnold Clark or WeWantAnyCar. Like most folk I used to go down the part-ex route but the last four cars I've bought it's been better seperating the buying and selling process.

I had a look at Volvo's but found both V60 and even V90 less practical than my Octavia but from both a comfort and especially the V60, aesthetic prospective, they're in a different league. Enjoy your new car - especially if you've opted for the upgraded sound package!

Cheerio finnster.

I moved to VW because I fancied a GTI again, and felt a bit let down by Skoda.  Mine was the opposite of yours and cost a small fortune in repairs.  Big factor for me was that the garage I bought the GTI from offered me £2,500 more than Skoda did for the vRS.

I could very easily be tempted with a Volvo next.

😁 Yup went for the Harman Kardon sound package - the sound is amazing  - its the first time I have had anything other than stock - but with the discount I got, I couldn't resist.

I have to say it is in a different league in terms of comfort and refinement (from an Octavia maybe not so much from a Superb) but then again on paper at least it is a far more expensive car.

Bizarrely though it was cheaper on PCP than a Superb or Kodiaq whith that and the Part Ex was the deciding factor.

The boot is smaller than the Octavia - not by a massive margin so for me wasn't an issue, but I could see how that could be a deal breaker for some.

I would go back to a Skoda in the future but the deal has to be right.

After I ordered my vRS I noticed that the V60 T5 (250hp petrol) was available at big discounts,or even better, demos a few months old and low miles around £25k.

Very happy with the Skoda but when you have never looked closely and driven an alternative you always wonder...

Yep it's almost like Skoda dealers don't want used Skoda's (Especially if they are diesel)

I was offered £1500 more for mine at a different dealer back in spring.

Sometimes you have to look at the price to change and what other discounts you are getting but the poor trade in values being offered by Skoda dealers are moving people to other brands. (As well as some reliability issues on the MQB platform vehicles)

I moved to Jaguar with the £2.5k B&W sound option.

The uplift in refinement and the standard of the audio are the biggest improvements for me, probably because refinement and audio were my main issues with the Mk3.

Its crazy, my VRS was my third Skoda and I had no qualms about getting another - but your right they really were not interested in taking mine off me.

The book trade in value was exactly what Volvo gave me (which cleared the finance)  but Skoda would only give £1K short of it which was an absolute non starter for me.

I know of another person who was in the same boat and he moved to another manufacturer for the very same reason, perhaps they think Skoda drivers are so loyal they will stay with Skoda at any cost - which simply is not the case (I think) most people have to think first with their wallet.

I don’t tend to trade in cars, you seem to be on the back foot from the start.

I believe that if you have an “ out of the ordinary car”,e.g a vRS rather than a lesser model Octavia, and your car is in above average condition, you are often better going to a specialist dealer who sells sporty/prestige vehicles.

If you then have cash so much the better to seek out your next car at a reasonable price.

It's cheaper on PCP because the Volvo residual would be higher at the end of the PCP. That's why a Citroen C1 is more a month than a Citigo
