Latest map update omission

Featured Replies

Latest update doesnt reflect that the PRINCE OF WALES BRIDGE(SEVEN BRIDGE) is now TOLL FREE

Can't say I'm surprised, when I reported a mapping error to Here it took them 5 YEARS to correct their digital maps :wall:

Is that the current Skoda ones or the newer VW portal ones?

Skoda maps are so out of date, even the recently released ones. Also live traffic reports are useless. It's Google maps/Android Auto for me.

Skoda maps 2020

A few years ago, I tried to point out to Tom Tom that the Spanish town of Torrevieja was completely missing from the maps. They said it was due to their map provider not having got round to adding it in yet. When I pointed out that there was evidence that there had been a port had been in that location since Roman times and asked how long they expected the update to take, they gave me my money back!

Yes it may say 2020 but it's maps are still outdated.

eg near me they have just removed 2 major roundabouts and replaced them with major junctions, also loads of other examples i could site.

Skoda 2020 won't show the change for years, Google maps had it all changed 2weeks after the roadworks had finished.

At best VAG maps are frozen around 6 months before they are released, but since their mapping provider (which I believe is Here) is VERY slow at updating the base digital data it can take several years for some updates to make it onto the VAG maps.

Google & Apple use their own mapping data and are MUCH better at speedy updates.

Unless you live at my house. In google maps entering Postcode, house name and village for my house takes you to another house with the same name five miles away In a totally different postcode 😂. They are starting to get annoyed with all my Christmas deliveries arriving at their house. Other than that I find google maps much better although miss the mapping in the virtual cockpit if using GM so tend to use the built in nav.

I had that happen to me when I rented a cottage in the country near Alton - there was a cottage of the same name on a very similar road name  in the next village, the only difference was my road name ended in "Lane" and theirs ended in "Road" - and Google thought they were the same!

Not strictly true. Whilst the Skoda server lists the 2020 series maps as the latest - in actual fact the 2020/21 series is actually now available and these are the latest versions available. These newer maps do reflect that the bridge is toll free. To explain a bit further - Skoda, being part of the VW group, use the exact same maps as VW but rename them and take roughly about 5 months to put them on their own site. So the 2020 maps which Skoda has just released were actually first available in June on the VW site. Several forum members, myself included, not wishing to wait 5 or 6 months for the latest version have now taken to using the VW site for map updates. I would expect my current  Europe 2020/21 map to be posted in June 2020 on the Skoda site but it can be obtained freely from the VW site now.

What Skoda sat nav do you have?

Yesterday I downloaded the latest available maps (dated 7th November 2019) for my MIB1 Amundsen from the VW website (where I have to download the Discover Media map for a Golf until 2015), that describes itself as a 2020 map not a 2020/21 map.

So I'm wondering if even VW do not update all the map versions to the same date, and that the map for the Skoda sat nav you have is more up to date than the maps for the pre-2015 Discover Media (aka MIB1 Amundsen)?

I'm not too sure about the Amundsen MIB1 - You could be right - I will have a look. My unit is the Amundsen MIB2 and I use the Passat/ Discover Media options to locate my map. If that's any help.

I've just had a quick look Dave and using your menu descriptions the European Countries Bundle 1 download that is offered is quite different to mine so I can't tell what version it actually is.

Yes,I've been using the VW maps on my MIB1 Amundsen for over a year.

I did a full binary comparison of EVERY file between the versions from the VW website and the Skoda portal. Result? - they are 100% identical, no difference at all.

Look at the last line of the Dbinfo.txt file of the MIB1 Amundsen maps - that shows the version date, e.g.
