Alternatives to Superchips and Revo

Featured Replies

Looking to get a standard vRS mk1 remapped. Ideally was hoping for a switchable box which I can plug into the OBD port and select between the default, eco and performance. Have used superchips before and was not impressed. REVO from  what i've heard are very aggressive on their maps. They are also very expensive at about £600 (£99 for the switch) and it is not clear whether they rolling road it before and after.Even their own website does not specifically give any BHP or torque figures for a stage 1. As it is a standard vRS i'd have thought a rolling road might be overkill?

any other good alternatives out there?

Switchable map is a total waste of time and money on a diesel, just get it done somewhere nearby so you have backup if anything goes wrong, suggest you get a torque limited map if you're on a worn standard clutch.

Just remember, everything you thought you knew about remaps and turbos does NOT apply to oil burners like the VRS.

So what you recommend is a custom remap on a rolling road on a standard vRS mk1?

That's very interesting as i'd have thought it is overkill for a standard car.

A few years ago on this forum switchable maps were all the rage on standard mk1 vRS. sounds like they have fallen out of favour although I had excellent results from Viezu. Had a remap done back in 2009 when my old vRS had done about 40k miles. Sold it about 90k later. still on original clutch and turbo.

What ever happened to remappers like p-torque, celtic and angel tuning? they also were raved about on here for many years. Now nobody mentions them.

No, I recommend a generic torque limited map because the PD engine is obsolete and there's no sense in wasting money.

So if I visit a reseller of revo, superchips, quantum tuning, elite remapping or in fact anyone who can supply a generic map. All they do is plug in their OBD reader, download the car's ecu file and then send it over to whoever writes their maps. They then tweak it and email it back to their reseller. The reseller then uploads it to my car and hopefully has also kept a backup of my original ecu file. Is that correct?

No, they just pluck a file off the laptop and blow it into your ECU, your original file is just the standard default map for a PD130, either ASZ or BLT. There's no customisation needed on a standard car.

I suggested someone nearby because it's not worth spaffing a load of fuel travelling to remap a standard car.

thanks i didn't realize that.

When I visited a reseller some years ago (not the afforementioned ones but one which was well known on here) i remember the guy there sent the ECU file over to some topshot remapper called "Oscarli" . He fiddled with it for about 30 minutes, sent it back to him and then put it on my car. End result: lots of black smoke. A very bad remap.

Oscarli was run by Richard Washbrook who was raved about on here. He originally worked for Revo
