Fabia vRS MK2 Tyre Choice

Featured Replies

I bought blacklion bu66 tyres 195/45/16 at £45 each which still have high index side walls. I'm pleased with them and good grip when cornering

What does this even mean? The sidewall height is quoted at 195*0.45 mm, or 87.75mm, and I don't think that changes (much) just because you run on YingTong Ditchfinders!

@snoopdowg

Are these on your Monte Carlo rather than a vRS?

I bet the TC / ASR light would be flashing a lot under hard acceleration on a damp road with a Twincharger.  Even more fun with the TC off.

195/45 R 16 & the 45 is 45% of the tyres width for the sidewall.

205/40 R 17, so 40% of 205mm

Fair enough, how long have you had them on?

I got 2 x new Avon's ZZ5. Was around £130 fitted for two.

Had them for around 2 months and they seem brilliant. Really make the back end more stable.

Currently have PS4’s on mine normal size 205/40/17 and they are great in the dry so so in the wet.

Had premium contact 6’s before and much prefer them in the damp/wet.

also have a set of Avon ZZR’s that are 215/40/17 and they have a habit of rubbing on the back with it lowered 40mm.

Nice. I did read about the PS4 not having great wet grip so i didn't get them, plus kinda pricey.

Heard Avons are ok in wet. They do seem ok but i have them on rear wheels not driven wheels so hard to tell really just how much wet grip they have. It was more because F1 auto were doing a deal on them. From what i can tell they are good and when i come to change my front 2 tyres soon think i will just go with Avons as well and have Avons all round :)

What did you think of the Avon's other than the rubbing? Did they last you long? Good wet grip?

Also how is yours lowered and do you still have the weights in?

You mention you have 215, how are they compared to a 205 tyre? Noticeable? My Avons are Avon ZZ5 84W XL Size: 205/40WR17 #2054017AVO13.

They are good in the try and ok in the wet as long as you can keep heat in them. Only used them a couple of times on the road. Once to go get fuel and for a couple of days while my road wheels were in getting a refurb.

mines lowered on H&R springs and I don’t have the weights as mines a Monte Carlo.

I did notice an improvement in ride quality with the 215s but the rubbing would annoy me.

this was them in the damp and wet
