Fabia 1.9 SDI Oil service and Oil advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Ive done a search and cant really find what I need to know.

The girlfriend has an SDI fabia and an oil service light has started to come on whne she starts the car. Im mechanically minded so feel confident that I can change the oil and filter, Im just wondering how I get the light off, and also what oil I should use for the SDI?

Any help or advice greatfully appreciated

In the owners manual I think it tells you how to do it using the kn0bs on the dash.

Again the maual should give you the oil specification.

To reset the indicator - hold the trip reset button in , then turn the ignition on and hold for 10 seconds.

The oil need to meet VW spec 505.00

Just one more thing...

How much oil will it take to change it? WIll this be in the owners manual aswell?

Thanks again guys

approx 4.3 ltrs iirc

Sounds about right, however one helpful hint I would give is that if it claims to take 4.3 litres then put in 3.5 leave it for 15 minutes then got have a look at the dipstick and add a bit moreuntil it is at about the half way mark. Then take the car for a quick drive, let it all settle againand top up.

This saves you from over filling the oil, which I have seen knacker an engine (albeit it looked like it was done more than just once)

Also don't forget a decent oil filter (Fram seem good to me) and a new sump plug washer to stop any dribles :)

EDIT: Oh and my 1.9TDi took 4.2 litres at the dealer service yesterday :)

Cheers for the replies. Ive got some oil and a filter now, and stuck my head under the bonner yesterday to have a quick look for the filter, but it wasnt quite as obvious as I would have hoped for.

I plan to have a better look for it but before I do can anyone advise me on where the damn thing is?!

Under the engine cover, at the front ish under a black plastic cap.

It's not a typical metal cased screw on filter and IIRC correctly it is located under the plastic engine shroud on the 1.9TDI (not done it myself on my Car as it's still in the 3 years).

I think it srops into a hole on the top of the engine somewhere.
