Octavia timing belt failure - recommend me an indi in Lincoln please

Featured Replies

Hi,

As per the title I have a 2016 Octavia 1.6d, currently showing just over 100k and unfortunately the timing belt has slipped and caused what I expect is catastrophic engine damage.

I'm looking for an indi based around the Spalding area to investigate and repair/replace the engine.

Recommendations please?

Thanks in advance

No one?

Try GRM motor services. He is a an excellent independant and a very good mechanic.  I have known Gary for years as he worked on my Focus RS and upto recently my Kuga.

Was that the original belt then?

Thanks both I'll give them a call.

Yes original belt and the second one I've had go around 100k out of 7 we run.

Skoda were not interested, even after escalating it to the MD's office, only pointing me to the automobile ombudsman.

Thanks, interesting for the rest of us to see when belts do go for sure.  The 2016 car isn't old but looks like that 100k is a possible limit.

Might be worth some visual inspections around 50k perhaps since that is possible easy enough by un-clipping the timing belt cover I believe.

We have replaced the remaining ones we have,.

Bit of a ****ter they potentially fail 40k short of the schedule that I have in writing from Skoda UK and Skoda take no responsibility but hey ho.

Yes, I'd at least check the belts but for peace of mind I'd replace around 90k

Cheers for the replies!
