Octavia headlights moisture

Featured Replies

Ever since the weather changed in the last couple of weeks (rain, cold mornings) and after servicing the car (oul change - but not sure if this can be linked to the problem) I’ve started to notice more and more moisture inside the headlights. 2 days ago after a 4 hours drive mostly in fog conditions I ended up with the headlights looking like in the pics below. The next day they mostly got cleared but on the main unit of the headlight (where the leds are) I still got some moisture on the lower part, as if it didn’t cleared.    I thought that maybe the moisure is because I have a clear film applied (Llumar) but don’t think it’s the case. Until now since I have the car I’ve had some periods with some moisture especially during late autumn days (lot of rain etc) but now I see it is worsening . Can anyone tell me where are the caps in the back of the headlights - to check if they’re closed or maybe something happened during the latest visit in service.  Has anyone experienced this and was considered normal?

Yes sir this is unfortunately normal. Especially during winters.

The factory protocols are: condensation is normal, droplets are not. When the latter happens the cluster is replaced.

Haha. Unfortunately normal. Moisture is finding its way into the units and condensation forms on the lens. This can't be any good for the reflector and electrical components inside.

Moisture is normal, water beading, running or sloshing is not.

It is also mentioned in the owners manual.

LED's don't get hot like halogens and xenon's, so they struggle to dry out at this time of year.

This is not entirely accurate.

First of all, moisture in the air would still turn from gas to solid when coming in to contact with the cold temperature outside the glass - even if it was warm inside the cluster.

Second, all tho LED generate less heat than xenon and halogen it does produce a fair amount but the heat sink below the unit absorbs it very well. Some systems like advanced matrix even has fans.

So my statement was correct then! 😁

So it's normal. OK, understood and thanks all for the clarification. I know that some condensation is ok but I've never seen the entire small cluster covered. Thanks!

I've had one changed under warranty but they did warn me that if it is damaged when they remove it then it would be chargeable.

Our other car a BMW Mini Clubman has LED Headlights and they can manage to design an all LED Headlight that doesn't exhibit this functionality so why can't Skoda ?

Off Topic - Mind it isn't without its own design flaws the reversing camera is too low and is dirty after a 10 minute drive this time of the year.

Check same topic about headlights.

Your both headlights are misting the same amount?

@FrankLK: yes thay did, both. Fortunately I've seen in the last days that the phenomenon did not return :) Will see, and thanks for the topic. Wasn't aware of it, sorry I opened up a new topic!

Mine that was replaced was always misting more and one day it remained wet.
