Service Book

Featured Replies

I bought a 18 plate Octavia that was due a service but I don't seem to have a service book. Is this normal or has it been misplaced as I know there is an app to access info. Is this a money making scheme by Skoda to make you go back to the dealers? Due to the poor after sales and miscommunication I decided to take it to an independent dealer but other than a receipt I haven't got a record of the service now.

They stopped Service Books yonks back.

(some simply clever dealerships still have ones if a customer wants.)

Ask at a main dealership for them to print out the cars Record on the System, Services, Recall Actions, Warranty work.

Or ask Skoda UK Customer Services to email it to you.

FULL MAIN DEALER SERVICE HISTORIES often shows how little servicing is done to Manufacturers recommendations.

PS

Someone will tell you how to get the stuff online.

I have had it's first service done at an independent dealers and wondered how to record this now without a service book for when I come to part ex.

Keeping the detailed receipt may be enough if the car is out of the 3 year warranty.

One step forward, two steps back.

Instead of a neat little booklet, we now have to stuff wedges of loose paper invoices into the glovebox instead. Genius.

Skoda will no doubt claim it is in response to customer feedback, or to save the environment, the reality is they're trying to force as many of us into their dealer network as possible.

By removing the service book, they've also made it much more difficult for owners to find out the service intervals and the components changed at each interval. Therefore it is often much easier for their franchised dealer network to confuse us, and to simply hand over the money.

Invoices and receipts are all that is needed with the car registration on them.

The Service books were books of lies in so many cases, just like the work sheets.  FMDSH that supposedly increases the trade in value.

ticks, or boxes marked as carried out and initials of work done and the next service mileage.

The forgotten Body Inspection pages filled in and a Dealers Stamp.

The one thing that no Service Book is meaning is if a Paint or Corrosion Warranty Claim is made Skoda UK say

'No record of inspections'.

Remember though, they have a record of who and where the car was serviced, so they know who at what dealerships never did it.

I have my car service done by a local independent garage (mechanic is Audi trained tech) they add details to the online Irwin system, apparently as used by Skoda. One thing my Skoda dealer failed to add details of was the new timing belt and followers etc that they changed a while back, they claimed it was due to it being done under warranty.

As others have said keep receipts and or ask for a print out to keep as a backup.

I just have a small folder which I keep at home and anything related to my car goes in there.

At eventual time that my car goes to a new home, the new owner will just have that folder to browse through.

I've done this ever since I bought my first ever car - I bought a 1980 Mk1 VW Golf - previous owner had been a little old lady from Scotland and she had kept every single receipt and document related to the car in such a folder which was passed to me.

Just seemed such a sensible way of being able to pass on the car and the cars history.

Booked mine in for its first major service at a trusted local independent garage, I will just keep, the printed receipt for further proof of servicing etc.....

Yeh. As others have suggested ... A collection of paper work is better evidence than rubber stamps in a book anyway.
