Headlight Projectors Main Beam not working

Featured Replies

Hi have just purchased an 08 Fabia.

Main beam on the projectors does not work.

As I put main beam on, the lights do work for a split second light up but then go off.

They did start to work but have stopped again.

I'm thinking stalk at fault but any help would be much appreciated.

When this happens dipbeam also stops working.

do they work if you hold the flash ?

Have the same issue at the moment on a fabia Monte carlo, mine uses one bulb for the dipped and main beam. However my problem may be different as when I pull the stalk forwards or backwards I do not get a main beam at all and the blue light that indicates main beam is being turned on does not come on dash. I am guessing most likely the solenoid is faulty or the wiring. Let me know if you manage to get yours sorted mate.

No,

If you carefully move the stalk slowly then you get a split second of main beam before it goes off.

I'm reconing it may be the stalk

Sounds like the stalk to me.

Check fuse 36 in fuse box by your knees.

Have already replaced fuse no difference at all

Was this bought from private seller or from a retailer ?

Have checked all over forums no one else seems to have had same fault as mine come up so makes it harder to diagnose will get someone to look inside headlight whilst I hold flash see if the shutter opens if all fails o will take it to a specialist. Anyone know any good vw specialist within the Midlands?

Need to try a different stalk / switch and double check fuse 36 is ok.

Will do mate already replaced fuse , don't think it's stalk to be honest as the cruise control works I'm pretty sure I'll test it on way back from work

I'm not saying they are separate on the Fabia and/or Ibiza, but they're 2 separate stalks om the Octavias.

The stalk is several different switches, it is entirely possible the full beam switch fails and the cruise etc works, the only thing to stop them all working would be the rotary coupler.

So let's say it is the stalk at fault ( will have to investigate later) how do I go about fixing it do I replace the whole stalk ? And is it an easy job to be done yourself.

Thanks for the help by the way.

Yes you would replace the whole stalk assy,

so steering wheel / airbag off, then you have access to the stalk assembly to replace, fairly straight forward

just ensure "BEFORE" disconnecting air bag ensure the battery is disconnected or it WILL latch a fault and vice versa when refitting, leave the battery disconnected till its is all put back together.

Also ensure wheels are straight before removing steering wheel, good idea to mark its position on the shaft as well.

This is what you need (subject to it being diagnosed as faulty)

Just need to ensure you order correct one V equipment fitted and year of your vehicle.
