This could be possibly a sensor's wiring issue if you're not keen on, let it have inspected by a specialist.

Iam up for it but whats the best place to start? I remember when the windscreen was refitted over a year ago the fitter just had it hanging there. But what else could he do with it? Maybe this is the issue?

Yes maybe the wiring could have been worn then and has occurred now..

Was the original windscreen installed?

If not there have been mentioned that the sensors position is different which stretches somehow the wires causing a possible wire cut symptoms.

The original windscreen was replaced.

Whats the best way to check this and start pulling it apart?

Sorry not sure how to help further but I assume you'll need an electrician who knows the part.

Will have to find the relevant cabling and measure the resistance.

If any other member could drop  a line for suggestions..

Was it a genuine replacement windscreen with the correct, clear aperture to position the sensor? If there is a tint in this area it could cause problems.

Also im surprised your car is still going 26 years into the future 🤣

You can access the back of the light and rain sensors by prising off the plastic shroud between the sensor and the rear view mirror.

This should at least give you the chance to check for trapped or frayed wires, or anything obvious.

Ok - So I have taken the mirror and sensor out and sprayed the contacts with electrical contact cleaner but still have the same issue.

I guess its a new rain sensor needed is it best to go genuine skoda or would OEM be ok?
