1.6 TDI CR 105

Featured Replies

Hi all, looking at buying my first skoda! Found a nice 2014 1.6 TDI black edition and was wondering if anyone has seen any common problems with this engine? I ha e read that EGR valve can be a common fault and costly to replace due to location. Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome.

Is it a Fabia Black Edition, or a Yeti?

Best read up on the Emission Fix in what ever section  & check if the car has had this carried out and when, and if in the past 24 months the Trust Building Measure Warranty thing can be useful if valid.

It's an Octavia black edition that I am looking at, when I go to view I will check as I will need the VIN. Thanks for the information.

If the fix has been applied there will be a sticker in the boot near the wheel well, showing 23R6 [on 1.6 engines]

if you haven't purchased already id recommend the elegance 1.6TDI owned for 3 years no issues to report and I do my servicing myself.

I have a 2015 1.6TDI SE estate - owner just over 2 years, 92,000 miles on the clock (30k since bought). I’ve had no issues at all, only had to put money on tires and breaks for general maintenance. In fact, my other half liked the car so much she bought a 2016 1.6TDI hatch last year.

Only thing that took a little getting used to is the 5 speed manual (it really should be a 6 speed). The gears are quite long with a narrow power band, so often sitting at around 30mph or 40mph where you’d usually be in 4th or 5th, it feels like you should be in a lower gear.

No real complaints though, I love the car!

So I ended up buying the Octavia and I absolutely love the thing although the wife struggles with the amount of tech in the car as the previous was an 02 astra!

Read the water pump thread sticky at the top of the forum and make sure the water pump was replaced.

Symptoms are temp gauge going up to the red then back down to normal once you idle or slow down a bit.

2014 is right in the affected area, mine is 2015 but built in 2014 and I had this issue, garage replaced free of charge as I was still in warranty.

I have MY15 Octavia Combi 1,6 TDI 4x4.

180.000km so far driven.

Waterpump and timing belt changed last summer, because waterpump failed.

It’s eating oil.. It should not eat any oil between service intervals. I know that 2.0 engines are eating, but 1.6 should not.

I had MY14 Octavia DSG petrol before this one and it was eating oil too, that’s why changed to 1.6.. Maybe i have really bad luck and got 2 oil eating motors in row, haha :D

Otherwise i’m really happy with my Octavia.

Booked today 180.000km service + manual transmission oil change, which has no official change interval, but i think it will make transmission last longer 😛

Wife's golf with the same engine has done over 160k (last time I checked) and so far has had the EGR replaced, two injectors and one sensor. About £1500 total costs.

She, however, drives like a loon with the mechanical sympathy of hungry polar bear and gets through a set of front tires every 6-8k (!). Last time she used my fabia she returned a 'nazi leaf' green score of 49 😮

So I think, we can saefly say the engine is durable.

My 2014 1.6 DSG Octavia is on 157,000 miles. Cam belt and water pump replaced at the 132,000 service. Only problem so far is just recently it has an intermittent cold starting issue, which is not the glow plugs, but if I 'cycle' the ignition 2 -3 times before starting it fires up OK.
