No drive

Featured Replies

I have a MANUAL 5speed Skoda Fabia 1.2htp 2007. Yesterday car was running and driving fine until I pulled up at a junction when trying to pull out relaesed the clutch but no forward motion at all in any gear. Clutch feels normal with normal action and hydraulic pedal pressure and I am sure the gear selector is engaging the gears. There was no smell of cooking clutch. Is there any known common fault with this gearbox ?

I am hoping something like pressure plate failure and not an expensive transmission failure.

Any ideas?

P.S niether drive shaft turns so not a spline failure at hubs

sounds like a clutch issue to me, to check its engaging gears (gear linkage ok / connected) select first gear and see if it moves when you try to start (without hitting anything)

Based on what?

Based on feel and sound of gear stick and linkage moving on top of gearbox.

Have you tried popping into second, with engine NOT running and then trying to manually push the car? This will tell you if the gears have engaged (Little or no movement) If it just rolls, its gears/linkage not clutch UNLESS the clutch is stuck in the disengaged position. If it won't push, try starting the car, whilst in gear if you have a clear path in front of you. It will then bump-start the car, if you keep turning the key. You might then be able to drive to clutch place. brake to a halt, stalling, using the key to start again. Not recommended for long journeys/ rush hour traffic, just a "Get-you-there" technique.

Problem solved, a large chunk of friction material broke off clutch plate hence no warning or slipping before failure. I have replaced it with a full new  Luk clutch, drive restored and a loverly light action.
