Another Yeti or an Arona?

Featured Replies

OK, so I have finally decided to bite the bullet and change my 1.4 LK. (Really fancy an auto now, but also like the practicality of the Yeti). I have therefore narrowed the choice down so I have been looking at either a newer (late / 2017) Yeti 1.2 DSG, the highest spec I can find (ideally an SEL Drive), or splashing a bit more cash and going for a Seat Arona, (Carwow have some very tempting deals and would probably cots another £3.5k).

Just looking for some help trying to decide....

The Arona can be cheap feeling inside - unless you have the high end models... please look carefully... dask and door panels seem cheap plastic on lower models.

We looked at them for my Daughter in November and ended up buying the Karoq (SEL) as it was better value

We were looking at New or nearly new and ended up with a 6 month old 3000 mile Karoq.

Just PX out my Yeti 2.0 TDi 4x4 DSG - SEL Drive - with 20K miles - 2017.... dealer gave me £13100 and has sold it for around £15K.

I'd have no hesitation about buying another Yeti (and a near difference of opinion with a large black Range Rover this morning meant I was close to putting my money where my mouth is, but that's for another time).

I don't know the Arona but I do see quite a few people who leave the forum when they switch to something else only later to return to the fold having bought another Yeti. OK the Yeti is probably now "old technology" but there are only so many baubles and geegaws manufacturers can flog you as being the latest must-have gizmo without which your motoring experience is incomplete.

Go on, have another Yeti - as Del Trotter famously said "You know it makes sense".

We wanted to get a petrol with the capability to tow our caravan, plus to be a hybrid, so today went out a bought this subject to them fitting a tow bar.

so, forgive my ignorance, what's 'this'?  a kia what?

Its a kia Niro Hybrid..

So the Yeti will go?

Is it 2WD?

What range will you get on the battery?

Re Kia Niro.  As i understood it in 2016 they were not Approved for towing in the UK.

It was 2017 before they got the Tow Pack allowing for fitting a Tow Bar.

The Self Charge & Plug ins now come with the Tow Pack as standard. Not a towbar though

Important to check build dates and Towing weights.

It's a nice car but not suitable for us....

You'll just have to keep the Yeti then 😄

Seriously, would you consider taking the Kia up in the hills?  Or have you retired now?

Giving up with 4x4 Response, but will still be able to do rally safety.

As an owner of an Arona (and had a Yeti on 2 year lease until 17 months ago), can answer this comprehensively.

The Yeti is noticeably bigger (when you are parking it), its also taller.  If you need the 4x4 capability go for it.

The Arona in top Xcelence Lux spec is well equipped (but can’t have sunroof, full leather) and back seats are poorer equipped (no central armrest, or rear interior lights).  Some of the lower specs have some fairly cheap bits of plastic trim inside.  The XLux spec however comes with a rare size of tyre which makes getting all season tyres a pain (Skoda also fit Kamiq SEL with this stupid size)

My suggestion is if you rarely have anyone in back seats, or use some tight car parks where narrower width helps then Arona is good.  But if you need the space go for bigger Yeti.

However since I was ordered 21 months ago the selection (and availability) of alternative smaller SUVs is much wider so there might be something else that suits you better

Problem solved by the dealer and another suitable Niro found within their group, so shall be collecting a 17 reg, red Kia Niro 2 at the end of the week.

Not a Niro ............but my Yeti kia replacement similar to this one

Looked and considered one of these..........very good quality ,great engine ,very low but so small inside compared to the yeti,no room for 4 average sized people In my opinion also looked in the arona ,good size boot but a lot lower and a very dark place to be and not great quality compared to the yeti imo,let us know your thoughts?

Agreed, the low driving position is what put me off the Arona and Kamiq. They are more slightly higher riding hatchbacks than Yeti successors. I can’t understand Skoda’s thinking on making the Kamiq driving position so low, a lot of people bought the Yeti because it gave a more commanding driving position - and one that was easier to get into/out of for some of us! The highest riding VAG small crossover model is now the T-Cross but it is simply not as nicely finished inside as the Kamiq - no soft touch plastics, can’t get leather interior, no electric drivers seat etc. Guess I will be looking at competitors when time comes for a change in a year or so. Lots of competitors in the market now and many more to come in 2020.

A lot of people bought a Yeti for the high driving position.

Problem was not a lot of Yeti were bought 2009-2016 regardless of how Skoda were spinning it, so in 2017 they knocked them on the head.

If they had been a sales success Globally. & more than they were in Europe / UK they might have ran with them.

A Vauxhall Como Life or the sister cars in the Rifter / Berlingo give the high seating.

The Vauxhall even comes for an extra £400 with tyres & electrics to help in some conditions that the FWD Skodas offer nothing in the way of assistance with as an option.

I see a lot of Yeti's around here! Must be the canny Yorkshire folk who appreciate them.

I wonder what sales of Kamiq will be considering the large number of competitors now available. Maybe the Yeti was just slightly ahead of its time?

They are all over Scotland as well.   The Kamiq will have lots first Registered / Sold.

Like Yeti's there will be ones that Motability are buying and the lease companies & car hire companies.  Skoda are quoting them happy.

How many Yeti we see because we notice them does not change the fact that there were not many more sold than there were Roomsters, or that all the Skoda models sold in the UK every year is no more than just 1/2 of just the Fiesta or Golf's 'First Registered' in the same years.
