Dash-cam power (Hello from Essex)

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

I've had my 2014 Octavia 1.4SE DSG auto for 2 months now and very pleased with it 😀

Thanks to this forum, I managed to gain access after a fully discharged battery over Xmas let me down.

The dash-cam had been left on over Xmas!

The front 12v power socket hadn't been pulled out in the last use - easily done.

This site looked friendly and useful, so I've joined up!

The lack of a visible keyhole really threw me, but you guys really helped me out - THANKS!!

Now, I need to find some 12v under the dash to power the dashcam and Garmin GPS, or it'll happen again!

Is there an easily found switched 12v under there?

Happy New Year everyone!

A warm welcome to the Forum Geoff !  I have a similar system but have never a dash cam pull the battery down even after four days.  I have trained myself to do all the checks before setting off and after switching off.  Old pilot training....

Thanks for your welcome.

Both the Garmin and the dashcam were left powered from that permanently live socket.

From Sunday pre-Xmas shopping run to New Years day lift of kids to rail station - 10 days!

The doors were all deadlocked and, thanks to Briskoda's search of that secret keyhole, I managed to access the recharging points.

I had my Optimate onto the back socket, one charger into the centre-console socket and an old charger directly onto the battery!

Two hours later, I had enough power for it to start - 1st go!

Petrol starting requires less power - glad I didn't opt for the diesel version.

Now, there must be a switched 12v in that dash?

Maybe there's a spare fuse location - towbar maybe?

I'm sure there's a better and neater solution out there somewhere.

Happy New Year

Geoff
