Looking at a 2010 2.0 110bhp Elegance on 88K - safe bet? What should I look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Morning all.

My 53 1.9PD Passat Estate is on it's way out and I need to replace it.

I [think!] I want a Yeti as we've had several Skodas across the years including a 1.6 TDI and a 1.2 TSI Fabby Scout.  I've got a £5-£5.5K budget, would like something from 2010+, drive around 16k per annum mainly motorway and am looking for whichever diesel engine will give me the least worries.  I have found a potential candidate in a 2010 2.0TDI - looks to be a 110bhp?  It comes with full Skoda Dealership history....

Is this a reasonably safe bet?  Anything I should be aware of?  I'm trying to educate myself with the engines, but it's incredibly confusing!

Thanks in anticipation of any help!

Yes, it will have had the "emmisions fix" applied, look up the issues this can cause with longevity to the EGR valve, sooting up the DPF exhaust filter etc, which can cost thousands to fix, and then re-occur again down the road. Hence the limited 2 year extra warranty for affected components they gave to any car under 160k miles after the fix was done, but not much use if it fails say 25 months later.

If it is driving fine and with no warnings, it can be rolled back to standard, by a specialist at relatively small cost, after which its reliability should be the same as an unmollested car.

MInd you this is true of any pre 2015 skoda, vw, audi, seat etc diesels

Amazingly it hasn't.  I've double checked with Skoda UK.  Declined the fix.  That makes it worth a look I think.  Especially at £4500 with full history.  :)
