Halogen Main Beams

Featured Replies

On a recent trip to Snowdonia I used the main beams fairly extensively.

The main beam switch is a bit fiddly, not a positive on and off and too easy to enable and disable the "auto dip".

The main beams are not great at all, with a dark void between them and poor throw on the driver side.

I suspect that it is the reflectors rather than the standard bulbs.

Our 56 Fiesta with nice big, round reflectors and Ring Ultra Xenons are much better.

My Mk4 Mondeo fitted with additional HID driving lamps was in a different league, of course.

I haven't found a way to turn the hi beam on without turning the auto hi/lo on. If they need turning off again then I just pull the stick towards me to turn them off (unless they have already turned off due to auto magic).

I find the beam pattern to be perfectly fine. No gaps and bright enough. Do they need adjusting?

Mine is a facelift one & with Philips Racing Vision in both sets of H7 bulbs, while they are not to the level of Xenon or decent LED, they are pretty good.  If yours is a pre facelift then you are restricted to H15 mainbeam bulbs so you wont have as much choice.

It is pre face-lift so it has the combined DRL/main beams
