destination sequencing

Featured Replies

apologies if off-topic, but thought I'd draw on the tech-savvy of this group.

I know how to enter multiple destinations on Google Maps, but want to learn how to optimise the route sequencing, to minimise back-forth driving (10+ locations)

many thanks

Not sure such way exists at all. At least I haven`t found it. Doing also sometimes trips with lots of stops.

Do not remember exactly, but maybe Tomtom had input sequence optimised.

Also @linni  What you're looking for is called the "travelling salesman problem". As you'll see from T_S_P this involves some rather complex mathematics...

Sounds like a route that is much more complex than the system can handle.

I rarely need something as complicated, but do favour Garmin on my PC plus a stick on Garmin unit that gives me more functionality and “dash data” than a car can.

Have planned a 500 mile 18 stop route quite happily on the PC and transferred to Garmin device (that one was on 2 wheels).

Haven`t tried, but you can plan a route on Skoda Connect website and transfer it to your built in satnav.

All of which is fine if you want to, say, start in Dumbarton, go to Balloch, go to Gartocharn, go to Fintry... Cambuslang and return to Dumbarton so you've done the selection of order of place visits. Here I've done the sequencing myself, but if I'd given, say, @chrisluciofg the place names in alphabetical order, no way would you get that sequence without knowing central Scotland.

  • 2 weeks later...

You used to be able to program a tour in Tour mode. Fairly easy and you can move your way points around as you want to.
