cam anyone tell me why my 1.6 1997 felicia wont rev over 3000rpm or go past 70mph? It was going fine but my thermostat stuck shut i stoped before it got 2 hot it now has no stat in the car is this why it wont run rite because it had no thermostat in it when i got the car last week and they put 1 in at the garage wich the aa have took out if any1 can shed some lite on this problem it would help many thanks nathan

:) Obviously it's hard to diagnose faults without seeing the car..but I reckon the catalyst may have collapsed and is blocking the exhaust. I've seen this many times on all sorts of cars in the garage I work in. I can't think how a thermostat fault could prevent the engine from revving, unless the car has gone into a "limp home" mode. Maybe the ECU has gone into this mode thinking that a coolant sensor is faulty? There are loads of possible causes of your fault, and if the exhaust/catalyst isn't blocked you'll need to get the ECU fault codes interogated.

Sorry to seem vague, just a few thoughts that may help,or may not!

The problem runing with no 'stat is the engine just doesn't get warm and thus doesn't get off cold start, it also confuses the coolant temp sensor.

I'd get a new housing complete with a new sensor (only about £30-£40) put that on and go from there.

p.s if you want help it might be worth taking some time and typing properly with punctuation etc, had a hell of a time reading that.

Cheers

Ross
