Featured Replies

Hi can anyone tell me please will this wheel fit my 2017 Superb?

I have found a set of Skoda and Passat alloys that share the same numbers.

TIA

1. with 3.8% difference in diameter you won't able activate Cruise Control

2. with 215mm width of tire boot floor's will have gap for ~10mm at sides

Thanks I'm not that bothered about the Cruise control if I've got a puncture.

I dont have tpms.

Obviously it needs to fit in the boot.

It was more to do with studs.

Yes it will fit.

However the tyre is a minimum of 8 years old so personally I wouldn’t buy it as it may well show signs of the rubber cracking.

The boot is also designed for a 205 wide tyre, so a 215 will lift the carpet up 10mm.

Unless your car has been coded out you will have TPMS, the OE system uses the ABS sensors not a separate sensor in the wheel or valve.

Thanks this is the answer I was looking for.

I'm guessing that it has probably been in a boot for this time so not subjected to the sun/weather etc.

I was aware of the tyre pressure system using the ABS, but thanks.

Maybe I will look for a 205.

I wouldn't use a tyre over 5/6 years old, even as am emergency spare.

Especially if I didn't know how it had been used/stored.

Ask the seller what the tyre date code is.

Thanks.

There are thousands of cars with spare tyres over 5/6 years old. That no one replaces.

The issue with older tyres is that the rubber deteriorates in sun and other weather conditions. A tyre that has been stored in the wheel well of a car for 5 years will not suffer with this issue.

I have asked the seller for the dot code.

I had a tyre de-laminate at 75 on the M1 many years ago with the family in the car, it took part of the rear bumper with it.  Tyre was returned to the manufacturer for a report . . .

Answer - it was seven years old!

Fair enough, I'm glad it wasn't more serious.

Was the tyre the spare that had never been on the car? Or were you running 7 year old tyres on the car.

Also you say many years ago, tyre manufacturing and design has come on massively in the last 10 years.

A tyre mounted to a car or a tyre sitting in the spare well of a boot will still be ageing and deteriorating but the former will obviously age/wear quicker due to usage and continued environmental exposure.  It doesn't mean that the latter will be perfectly 'safe' or 'fine' on the one occasion that you rely on it.

Some tyre manufacturers recommend replacing at 5/6 years (regardless of use) and some say 10 years but monitor them closely after the first 5.

Unused spares with tools often come up on the market for £100-150 on eBay and they will likely be sold by people on 2-3 year lease deals that no longer have the car but paid for the spare themselves.  E.;g:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-SKODA-SUPERB-VW-PASSAT-16-FULL-SIZE-SPARE-WHEEL-KIT-JACK-TOOLS/233427767412?hash=item3659611074:g:3PsAAOSwN8hd7XHl

So whilst it's £80 more than the one quoted in the OP, you get the OEM tools and peace of mind that it's significantly newer. No brainer IMO.

Thanks I have just purchased the one in the link. It was only an hour away and he did it for £100. Happy days.

Is there any market for the foam bit that's currently in the boot?

Take a look on eBay, I've just taken a quick look and it would appear that people do sell them on
