Sat Nav Memory Card Update

Featured Replies

Please could someone Help me to update my sat nav memory card for a mark 3 Octavia. I tried but totally failed in updating the card. I formatted the card in ms dos and then downloaded the updated software to the card. I did not save the previous data on the card. I inserted the card into the Octavia and I get the following message “Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data”. Please could someone guide me?

I found that

(A) you have to use the SD card supplied by Skoda. The advice I received from the Skoda garage where I bought the car was NOT to format the card because there is a risk of corrupting the hidden file Skoda put on the card to ensure verification.

(B) you must first slide the lock on the SD card to make it writable (if it's been locked)

(C) Put the SD card into your computer

(D) I first copied the map folder from the SD card to my PC (for safety)

(E) Delete the Map folder from the SD card (not possible unless you do (B))

(F) Download the new map and follow the instructions

Or get hold of Rustynuts on here, as he sells updated sat nav SD cards. I bought an updated one from him, as I did not trust myself to update my own SD card without making a mistake.

Hi I used a 32g SD card not from Skoda downloaded the update to my pc and extracted the zip file to my card. You cannot just put the update on the card you should have multiple files and folders on the card.

The card was formatted with fat32 before hand on the pc but most cards come with this format in any case

Worked fine, just took a while.

That only works for Columbus systems, Amundsen requires the mandatory use of a Skoda specific SD card to do any sat nav updates.

Also if you do any map updates, use the VW sat navigation site for a more up to date set of maps.

Use Golf GTi as the car (after 2017) and then choose either:

Discover Media (Amundsen)

Discover Pro (Columbus)

As said above Amundsen must have a Skoda SD card.

There is NO problem with reformatting it FAT32, it will NOT delete the hidden files that allow the Amundsen to detect it is a genuine Skoda card - the SD cards I use with my Amundsen have been reformatted every time I update the maps.

Agree 100% that downloading the maps from the VW website is the best place.

BTW if you have a MIB1 system you must select Golf until 2015...

Essentially, pick the year of Golf that's the same as your own car and it'll probably be correct, as they received facelifts and Infotainment upgrades at broadly the same times.
