VRS value at 18 months old

Recommended Posts

So my Vrs diesel is about 18 months old and I'm looking to change it.

It's a 18 plate hatch facelift in velvet red, 19" extremes, red stitching, Canton, heated seats, DSG, black pack and a few VCDS mods. Sign recognition, cornering fogs, Audi mod etc

I want to change it because of company car tax. It makes complete sense to get a hybrid now, a 330e or 530e, merc C class or golf Gte is what I'm thinking. Any of them would save me about 170 quid a month!

The problem is I have had the car valued at around 12k depending on who it is, WBAC are actually offering me the most at £12,050 with Arnold shark a few hundred quid behind. Skoda dealers have said it's because of the high mileage. It's currently on 57k but it has been looked after regardless of cost. Full main dealer history etc. I just think they are all taking the pee a little with that valuation!!

Has anyone else had any really low offers? We paid 22k for the car in October 18 with only 2k miles on the clock, could it really have lost so much money in such a short space of time??

Your lucky my stage 2 Vrs245 cost £28,100 new in August 2017 and when I traded it with 29,000 (fairly gentle motorway) miles on the clock the dealer gave me just £12,500 against the £23,840 Superb Sportline Plus 272 DSG I bought from them on 28/12/2019.

15 months ownership isn’t long, but 55k miles in that time is a lot!

Regarding the value,I wouldn’t expect either a car supermarket or outfits like WBAC to give the best price but they will be generally indicative of the market so don’t expect a lot more and the high miles will make it a tough private sell.

Since it is a vRS I can only suggest you try the specialist “sports/prestige” dealers for offers.

Buying a car is not a good investment, especially for a brand new car.  The value of a new car drops a lot in a short time.

This is why i’m not going to buy new cars anymore; 1-2 years old car with low kilometres can be usually be bought half price than brand new.

Might be an idea to pay to become a FREEDOM member on Briskoda to advertise your Vrs and may appeal to some interested in good value rather than above average mileage as your car is a nice spec for those seeking a diesel. You could try advertising it for say £13,500 and see if you get any offers.;)

Yeah i think I've learned my lesson! The problem is my boss is a really sound guy who let's me have whatever car I want, within reason, and ge has said I can change it but I dont want to lose him thousands of pounds. If I keep it another 3 months the finance figure should nearly match what it's worth then I should be able to get rid of it guilt free lol.

I was offered a 19 plate superb sportline in moon white with a fair few extras and only 7k miles the other day, skoda wanted my car back plus a 2k deposit and then the monthly figure was pretty much identical. This does not benefit me in the pocket though, it's actually worse per month on company car tax which is why I want a hybrid. The 530e is what I want but I need to make the numbers balance on this first. We have a Ford ranger 3.2 wild track at the office,l which is ok but it's no where near as nice to drive or as fast or as quiet or as economical lol

I think that is probably the way i will go. It's a lovely car and I'd hate to see it go on to someone who wouldnt appreciate it. It's the best car I have ever had by a long way

The problem is there are loads of used vRS's out there, the market is full, choice aplenty.

6 months older than yours, but it being an estate probably balances that out, 15,000 miles less, but take the £1,000 - £1,500 dealer margin off and you're close to the value you've been given for yours...

That's crazy.  I spent way more than that on a 2017 pfl 230.

Why not sell privately and get loads more for it?    If that was listed for £15k privately it'd get snapped up!

Thought this was an interesting comparison on residuals between 3 German hatchbacks.

Mercedes A200 AMG Line new £28,700 after 3 years/36,000 miles loses £16,701.

VW Golf 1.5TSi DSG R-Line new £26,980 after 3 years/36,000 miles loses £16,679.

Audi A3 Sportback 1,5TFSi S-Line new £28,835 after 3 years/36,000 miles loses £16,909.

Even Premium makes still lose a chunk of money in the first 3 years of ownership.

I think I'm gonna get a 2 or 3 year old BMW 530E. That way I can get one that has incurred most of its depreciation and I can try and find one with all the options I want. And its hybrid So my company car tax will drop quiet a lot!

The car is a two owners car. For the sake or argument, say average miles is 12k a year or 1k a month. The average miles on your car should therfore be around 18K - you have more than tripled the mileage. Apart from metallic paint, the extras you speak of add no value whatsoever to the car. You also have the hatch version which isn't popular and an engine powered by a fuel which is becoming less popular by the day.

Sorry to inform you but £12k isn't taking the pee at all, and yes that's the sort of depreciation you should have expected.

When I was thinking of parting with my car, I too was a little surprised at the valuation given the condition and options on the car, but then again I bought a car for £17750 which 5 months and a mere 1000miles earlier retailed for just over £27k. I then looked at the alternatives I was thinking about at the time - a Golf GTD estate, a Passat estate, BMW 3 series Sport etc and you know what, they all depreciated at the same rate of knots. Cars are becoming ever more expensive to run.

You could try selling it privately if you don't like how the trade value your car.
