Bolero is unresponsive and changes radio channel randomly

Featured Replies

My Skoda have since winter started behaving a bit strangely.

Mostly when the car haven't been running for a long time it will suddenly start switching radio channels or make phone calls if I am on Phone page

It seems to stop after 5-10minutes but while its active I cant use the touchscreen or the buttons, sometimes I can change channel using the Wheel controls, but not today.

Since it wasn't there this summer I think it could be moisture, but activating air condition don't seem to help, so maybe its not inside the cabin?

I tried calling Skoda, but they havent heard of this issue before and not sure how I can reproduce it as it dont happen every day.

So have anyone else seen something similar?

This is how my bolero looks (Not from my car)

Yes, last year I did. It was only for the first 5 mins maybe on very cold days. Pretty sure its moisture/condensation related which trips out parts of the screen. I'd only just bought the car used, so i kept getting skoda to try different things. At the same time, I both cleaned the screen with a good screen cleaner ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ecomoist-Natural-Screen-Cleaner-Microfiber/dp/B00846UAZM/ )  and skoda also updated the software to the latest version for the stereo. I asked them, and there was nothing specific for the problem in the update 🤷‍♀️ but either cleaning it or updating it has made it behave for me.

I'd try a clean first, if that didn't work if its under warranty ask Skoda to update the stereo after showing them a video. If not, there is a thread or two on here where a really helpful member (pab567) has been providing stereo updates for people 👍  I have a feeling cleaning the screen will make it work better, I noticed on mine it seemed like it had a slight film on it, like whoever valeted it used some crappy cleaner that left residue. If not, an update must of tweaked the sensitivity of it.

I have the same problem during winters starting from the second winter. As the car is still under warranty, I asked the dealership, and they updated software and cleaned the screen, which helped. Not permanently, but helped. If it used to freeze up the screen for a few minutes, now it freezes only for like couple of seconds. So maybe it's a good idea to ask for an update from dealership?

As I rarely use AC, I do think it's something moisture related messing with the screen itself, because the device itself is working fine, it's just like if somebody is pressing some random places on the screen.

Lots of people have had this issue including me. Skoda advised me to clean the screen with WD40!? I used some screen cleaner instead and this did help massively after a good scrub with a microfibre cloth. I think it's done it once since. The screen temperature can drop to around zero degrees despite the temp gauge showing higher (used a laser thermometer to confirm). Mine was a combination of cold weather and the screen needing decontaminating (despite it looking spotless).

cleaning with wd40 seems a bit crazy, its not rusty 🙃 I'm sure I read a guy on here used to use methylated spirits, drys almost instantly without residue. I was just a little concerned it may remove any anti glare/oleophobic coating so stuck with regular screen cleaner.

  • 1 month later...

There was a specific update from Skoda for this issue, there were several issues relating to freezing, radio changing stations, pre sets being lost, a TPI covers various stamp tins with an update to rectify, it has been known that a new 5F control unit and screen were replaced, (poss superb and octavia only)
