Creaking noise from front suspension

Featured Replies

Noticed this as soon as I got home with the car on Saturday. Our drive is on a slope and as I pulled across the top of the drive to reverse down it, I heard the creak.

I had exactly the same thing on an A3 I had a few years ago and it required some lubrication in the suspension somewhere.

I don't envisage any issues when I take it back on Monday to be checked because it happened on the day of collection, its still in its 3 year warranty and Rainworth have an excellent reputation for good customer service from reading reviews.

I'll update the post again next week.

Mine did the same from very early on.  Inspection reported the drop links were 'tight' and they were both replaced.  Solved the problem, although I often wondered if un-tightening them would've been easier.

I took the car over to the garage and could not replicate the sound. The service manager said it's to be expected to get some noise from the suspension if one side is up and one down but would only be concerning if it happens in a straight line going over speed bumps and even then it would depend on if its doing it all the time and at various speeds.

So I'll monitor the situation for now. It did creak from the drivers side today over a speed bump but didn't do it over the same bump coming back the other way.

My vrs used to do it. Turned out to be front anti roll bar bushes.

Agreed. Replace with some poly-bushes

Just to bring up this topic again, the creaking has become more persistent over the last few months. It happens every time on my driveway without fail as mentioned above but also does it on uneven road surfaces or occasional minor pot holes and speed bumps. It's definitely noticeable even to SWMBO who previously said she couldn't hear it.

So off it went to Skoda last week and surprise surprise they couldn't find anything. They acknowledged the creak on an audio recording I'd emailed them when I placed my phone in the footwell but it didn't make any difference to their findings and any suggestion of known issues from reading online forums was dismissed immediately.

It was absolutely tipping it down with rain on the day which would hamper their efforts they said. In any case, the mechanic fetched the wheel off and did a thorough check but no issues.

Yet there clearly is an issue somewhere as it still persists!

I've just had the same issue dealt with during a service.  The dealer said it was a known issue with a technical bulletin to apply 'lithium grease' to the bushes.  So far, so good....
