VW 504 / 507 so 5w 30 FS III (Long life for Variable / flexible servicing)  TSI / TDI and it must be VW 507 for the TDI Fixed or Variable.

TSI's can be VW502 for Fixed Service Intervals. 5w 40 FS. (not long life.)

Note it doesn’t actually say it is VW504/ 507 approved.

So would you not use it ?

What oil would you recommend (make ) she dose about 10k a year and I will change it twice a year

For a vehicle of that age it will probably be fine. I was just pointing out that oil is not actually VW approved. Which would only really be a problem if used in a car that’s still under warranty and some engine defect occurred.

I would use what oil you have and i would change it at 10,000 miles or annually.

When you need more oil i would go to ASDA or anyplace and buy what they sell, as if Meets & Exceeds or is Approved you know it was produced by an Oil Producer

and as it is Castrol Approved was not the saviour of engines, and out of Warranty VW group could not care about the lemons they built.

So it's made from dead dinosaurs!! ;) Sort of seriously, that's all you can say from the quoted statement...

@KenONeill

Is that a sort of funny based on decomposed vegetation in the form of oil being brought out from under the earth and rock?

Being Fully Synthetic it will contain crude oil and other raw materials.  So distilled and modified.

Well, "dead dinosaur" is part joke, part generalisation. So is "decomposed vegetation"...

"Fully synthetic oil" is still mostly manufactured from a crude oil base stock,

Unbelievable but true, everything on earth comes out the ground. The sea or the air.  Some p1ss comes out somepeoples heads.

Avoid the confusion, just put oil in that meets the latest VAG standard, VW 507.00.

Long life oil, low ash for DPF's and suitable for petrol, diesel and both fixed and variable service intervals.

£19 for ASDA oil that meets the VW 507.00 specification, but isn't approved...

I'd be happy using it, but for £6 more you can get fully approved oil, the same oil the Skoda main dealers use.

Delivered to your door from JCT600 Volkswagen in Newark...

Not approved but exceeds the spec.

I would bet £100 that if Asda oil was to gub a VW engine you would have more chance of compensation from Asda than you ever get with a FMDSH and the car only ever having had Castrol or Quantum used.

It wouldn't be ASDA telling you where to take your broken car, they'd pass you on to their supplier of the oil.

It would then be the supplier who would insist on a cost prohibitive independent assessment of the engine.

The likelihood of the oil manufacturer / supplier contributing to the cost of a failed engine shouldn't influence your choice of oil, it'll have zero benefit in the unlikely event it could be proven the oil was at fault.

You are right in the real world you would get nowhere.

Like most get with VW Group.    The Castrol really is nothing special and neither is the Quantum.  If you really care about your engine using that is doing no special favours.

The honest truth is like many things VW recommend that are consumables it is just for their gain as they have financial interests.

The manufacturers with more reliable engines recommend whoever they choose and are in business with.

£19 to £25 is pretty good going for 5 litres of oil.

It's those that spend £39 delivered for only 4 litres for the branded stuff that I can't quite fathom...

I guess it's only the same as the standard vs. premium and supermarket vs. branded fuel debates.

Each to their own.

So if Castrol and Quantum are nothing special. What is, For those of us who want to put the best oil in our cars??

Is there a best oil or are you as well with VW 504 / 507 Spec from any Oil Producer producing to that spec or exceeding it?

No need to pay for the Advertising Agencies Costs.

They are only TSI or TDI's and not being used for Race or Rallying.

Only if you re trying to address a specific problem, or obtain best power and/or fuel mileage. As you already know, as long as you meet specs most oils are much of a muchness for all round work. (Personally I prefer a low Winter viscosity, because it pumps up faster on a cold start but that only matters when you know what you're talking about, like we do)

@KenONeill

What low winter viscosity oil are you using for a TDI in a possibly very very cold Scotland or UK?

This stuff comes out at £28 delivered.

When I said that, I meant a generally available 0W or 5W ratng; I'm not even slightly available of anything lower (but have seen the pressure light go out when still cranking and using 0W rating).

From where ?

Google / Ebay / Amazon are where you might find good prices.

Buyer beware of Oil and consumables and parts online.  Use trusted traders because there is hooky stuff about and hooky 'Branded Oils' have been a favourite

of con merchants.

Not even been produced only abroad / overseas from the UK.  It happens in the UK as well.

You might not know that oil is snide as the containers look right, it might be a Low Oil Pressure warning that gives the first clue you get.
