Labour cost for shocks & springs?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know what an acceptable price would be for a garage to fit a set of 4 schocks and springs which I supply myself?

The car is an Octavia estate with rear beam suspension.

I've had a quote for £290 so far.

Many thanks.

Get a couple more quotes and make your decision on the reputation of the garage. It's a reasonable easy DIY job to tackle on the weekend. A set of spring compressors and access to a vice comes to mind. The quote is probably not too far away given workshop rates nowadays.

£290 seems very fair for a professional with a building, insurance and the alignment equipment and that is charging VAT to pay to the UK treasury.

They need to make a profit and have to pay tax on that.

Agreed.

I guess a 3 hour job.

Springs only seems to be estimated at 2-3 hours for a garage so with shocks as well £290 all in looks like a good price to me.

Hi chaps,

Thanks for all the replies.  I'm glad to hear that price sounds about right. I've now booked it in with them to have the work done.

I appreciate all the replies,  thanks again!
