2021 / 2022 Plug in Hybrids. Company Car Tax might make them cheap this year. But!

@cheezemonkhai  So are you saying there are Plug in Hybrids in the fleet of the company you work for and they had to pay for batteries for those vehicles?

Or is this a story from someone that heard from someone and just a story not based in fact?

I thought I made it pretty clear.

It was our fleet manager, talking about our fleet vehicles.

The other companies part came from him talking to other fleet managers who had similar stories.

@cheezemonkhai

Yes you made it clear he was unhappy about some cars.

So he had to pay out for poor maintenance.  At least he knows who the employees were then and who was the Fleet manager that allowed them to behave as they did..

Well I know it was not a one off and the extra fuel card costs (never mind the additional battery charges) were enough to change company car policy.

My outlander was never off charge! I do remember something in the manual about it being required to be charged every so often as well as the fact that if you ran solely on electric (and some people did just that) that the engine would run after some months to prevent the petrol going off (same people bemoaned this).

I had a go numerous times on the rapid Ecotricity chargers when they were free but too much trouble for not enough range, slow charge at work or home was the way to go.

As mentioned the x5 PHEV sounds much more useful with its larger range though.

IMHO more electric, less ICE needed in PHEVs

Interesting survey done by the AA who asked 12,977 motorists what type of fuel or power would they be choosing in 2030. The results may surprise you.

Petrol    30.2%

EV           19.8%

Diesel     16.8%

Hybrids   13.7%

PHEV       11.7%

Those choosing a car to buy in 2030 might well be buying a used petrol or diesel that are the last of the ones being built and able to be purchased.

?

I take it the ones that said hydrogen or some other fuel source or 'do not know' made up the 7.8%

This could be a good option for a Business / Commercial users or just for hobbies and recreational use where that needs a car with 4x4 capability or just usable farm track or forest tracks and can tow.

Use like an AWD van even.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to stay that colour for long! :smirk:

It must be all the off roading and green laning that those cars do?

What ever the budget brings will be what it is.

Since the other Hybrid thread has been locked i thought while charging at a public charger about EV's & Hybrids.

Something i notice is how friendly those charging can be,

not all obviously, but i do find that Hybrid drivers chargers seem to be friendlier than EV drivers.

For singles or just those that like to mingle maybe getting an electrified vehicle and doing public charging is as good as dating sites or the likes.

@Lady Elanoremight already be aware of this and just how many George Clooney look-a-likes there are about.

................................

When my Corsa goes in for a service & recall actions i am hoping to be able to arrange getting an Astra Plug in Hybrid to drive for a few days.

I would like to try the New Astra for comfort in a non-crossover car as i am thinking on an Astra Sports Touring EV next year when i change cars or maybe sooner if i hand the Corsa back early.

WHAT! WHO! WHEN! WHY!

Why don't salemen lead with this!

"Hello would you like to buy a hybrid"

"Nah, just tyre kicking"

"You will get to meet George Clooney look a likes"

"What, free of charge"

"Yes, them and their hybriddiddy cars" (see what I did there)

"Can I buy one of your hybriddiddy cars please?"

"Certainly, 3 copies press hard" (old salesperson joke)

CVT's have never been something that bothered me as everyone i have owned or driven were very efficient and i never expected them to sound like a manual or auto.

The cars went forward and picked up speed which is all that i was wanting them to do.

Loved my Daf & Volvo CVT's and they were certainly not rubbish.

I have to say I really dislike CVTs. I get that they are a great solution to many things, but I still dislike them and the engine note they can cause. I remember selling Nissan CVTs way back when and they were a hateful thing in my eyes, or rather ears. There was a design using discs, that seemed very clever and looked a much better mechanical solution to variable transmission, but I don't know what became of it?  There were several discs involved and it looked a bit like a differential (I think) except there were no teeth on any of the discs.

There is a CVT that really gets slated and yet I liked it.  But then I am a bit deaf.   The Suzuki Swace.  (Toyota).  It can really get good fuel economy.

It's a great idea to improve efficiency, but I'm a bit of a dinosaur and like the brum-brum noise of a car with individual gears
