gear selector spring broken

I recently have been having  problems  selecting 1st 2nd and reverse gears until today total failure on these gears. Having looked under the gear stick covering it appears that the spring  on the side is broken ,which is how I came to join this forum there is some info from another member on how to fix this although  not sure if it's the same on a 2008 mk3(jxygearbox code) if anyone has any further info then please tell , these things look at first easy but then you realise that you need the correct  sequence  and knowledge  to proceed ,anyway thanks in advance and look forward to being a member.
