Service interval

Featured Replies

I just bought a skoda superb 2019 model. I m confused if the service interval is 15 or 30k km? My car has done 14,000 km and now the service reminder come for next 1000 km..

I live in new Zealand

Really appreciate feedback

Not sure what happens in New Zealand, but cars leave factory set to 30000km or 2 years (whichever comes first), suitable for long distance cruising

There is an alternative setting 15000km or 1 year for city driving, hills, lots of short journeys, cold starts

At PDI dealers are supposed to ask if you want it changed from long interval, but some do it anyway which is I guess what yours did. Clearly in some cases it is a sneaky way of getting you back for servicing work earlier (but some family dealers may know your driving style and actually did this to look after you)

There is a general view that long service intervals cause more premature wear from about year 5, but it is loved by people who would have sold their car on (or returned under a lease) as it saves them servicing, and then the expensive repairs  will be someone else’s problem.  Some repair/replacement will cost lot more than will have been saved on extended servicing.

Conversely if you intend to keep the car, then servicing it well (more often) should help it give trouble free running for years.  In UK if you see a breakdown on motorway often a 1-2 year old car.  Save on servicing, inconveniently break down.

Remember manufacturer’s have a perverse incentive  in making cars only last about 7-8 years so you replace them and buy another new car, if they last 15+ years then harder for them to sell another new car.

Thx John Surrey, your explanation is sensible. Really appreciate

My service interval wasn't changed at PDI but as I intend to keep the car I will have it serviced at 1 year especially as I am on  service plan

@vade04

Does the Service Plan not require the car to be serviced on a Fixed Service regime anyway, so at 9,400 miles or 372 days or sooner, Interim / minor service and a Major service?

Or was it different terms from that?

So I have a related question ... seems I am missing out with a 5 year service plan.

A couple of months ago I bought (2nd hand) a Dec 2016 car. It's on a 5 year plan.  Service intervals should be Y1 = Dec 17 through to Y5 = Dec 21 and as I understand it the services are major-minor-major-minor-major. Major = ol change etc. and minor is an "inspection service". It seems the previous/original owner got it serviced in Dec 17 and Dec 18 then for whatever reason was a few months late to Dec 19 and got it done in May 20. So now Skoda says the next service is May 21 (a minor) and May 22 is the next major. The 5 year service plan ends in Dec 21. So I pay apparently. Notwithstanding the plan would have covered this in Dec 21.

Has anyone had this happen to them and successfully fought it out with Skoda?

I'm in a similar boat to you. I bought a April 2016 car, and the garage that I bought it from serviced it in October when I bought it.

At the time I didn't know it had a service plan on it, its only when I went to buy a plan that I was told it already had one on.

Same position - My service plan runs out April 22 so I can have a service in October 21 but not October 22.

The way I see it is that if you want to get 2 services carried out (for free, technically) then I will get the car serviced in April 21 and then again in April 22.

You could get the car serviced now and then in Dec 21 so you get 2 services out of them? Yes you will have to pay for a service in Dec 22 but thats better than paying for a service in May 22.

I thought the same ... bought the car in September, figured out the anomaly I mentioned above, booked it for a service in December (just last week). It was when I took it in (well, about a half hour after when the dealer rang me) that I found the problem. You buy the service plan from Skoda. You book a service at a dealer. The dealer invoices Skoda for the work they do. From Skoda's POV the interval has been changed and a service is now NOT DUE, therefore they won't reimburse the dealer. Skoda also won't change the interval (unless you've done the mileage).

I have contacted Skoda (web-form) and will see how I go.  Cheers
