RCD 310 head unit swap + mold rear seats

Featured Replies

Hello people,

I am writing this post to ask your help / advice regarding two issues I have with my 2004 Skoda Fabia MK1:

1)      One friend gave me a RCD 310 head unit (was installed in his 2012 VW Polo) because he switched to a unit with GPS. I have visited some car shops looking for an Fakra antenna adapter and an ISO cable adapter. The idea was to install this head unit into my 2004 Fabia.

The person in the shop told me that if I will buy the adapters, I will not be able to use the radio, because Polo has a digital system and my Skoda analog. I find this strange, so I would like to know if the information I got is accurate.

2)      I've notice a little bit of mold on my rear seats. The area is quite small, however, the carpet is law. I've checked the seal of the door, and everything seems fine. What do you recommend to use for cleaning the mold without removing the bench and how can I prevent this in the future?

Thanks a lot.

I don't think you can use the radio because it will be coded to the 2012 Polo and I doubt it can be recoded to work with an older model like your Fabia.

Mould is easily cleaned with soap and warm water.

Mold obviously means dampness. Has the car had the door carrier sealing treatment?

sepulchrave, VW dealer gave me the unlock code, this is not an issue. I'm trying to get rid of it, so I think chemicals like vinegar + water would do better than soap, however, I prefer to not use vinegar; the smell would drive me crazy.

TMB, mold/mould like...green, not wet.

I'm trying to get rid of it (mold) - sorry for double posting, it looks like I cannot edit it.

The simplified version is that I believe the person in the shop is right. There is no canbus in the MK1 Fabia, which I believe the 2012 Polo uses, so they are unable to talk to each other as one is an analog system and the other is a digital system.

Someone please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but that’s what I understood from the explanation I was given when I was asking about installing an RNS-E found in the A3....

I'm not talking about the unlock code, I'm talking about the CAN bus.

Good luck getting it working smart guy.

Thanks for all the answers.

sepulchrave, the whole point of posting here is that so knowledgeable users give their opinion. I just thought that by *coded* you meant locked. No need to be a smartie pants for no apparent reason. Thanks for your contribution, so to speak.

You need someone to be a super smarty pants or your problem won't get solved.

So with that said, I've told you I don't think your plan will work, I've told you why and I haven't charged you four bob, so you have enough for that phone call.

Thank you all It's very clear that it's either not possible or if it somehow is, is clearly not worth investing time in this.

Vladimir
